They come out with a new Andriod phone every 2 months. You should buy when its worth it to upgrade, not when the new thing comes out. I read about people using Apple computers when their 5 or 8 generations behind.

Actually, I’m still using my iPhone 3g – mind you, NOT a 3gs. Yes, Apple updates often, but they also support what they produce much longer than others, who simply toss the old phone for something new. the whole idea of the iphone is the iOS, allowing you to upgrade the os, and get new and updated features on your device..

Yes, there are still limits to that – processor speed, graphics resolution, etc. causing limitations over time, and the eventual need to upgrade – but the entire structure is in place to keep that new apple product updated and current for quite some time. I’ll make the jump to the iphone 5 – from my 3g – that’s many more years of service than other companies.

quality? how exactly are you getting quality when apple updates their products ever year making last years look obsolete? you’ll be blowing through at least 5 new iphones, ipads, ipods in 5 years.

The existing TV manufacturers, which have been around for decades, are nothing but slow plodding dinosaurs. The door to this good ole boys club is about to be ripped off the hinges. Apple will bring dazzling and cutting edge design and engineering to the table. Thank goodness.

No no no! I like the idea! First thing that popped into my head when the rumor mill started churning out the idea of an Apple TV was iTunes & wait for it, Karaoke! Right from the iTunes store! Guitar Hero, SingStar, both had quantity holding them back, while i’m not saying that every song would automatically or ever be available as a Karaoke format to download, default, iTunes wins (would win) in connecting an excellent idea in an unconnected (broken) environment. The iPhone would easily work as a Mic & an actual Microphone be released via the iTunes store.

If Apple does this, i’d be in line day one.

All they have to do is take a generic TV, put their logo on it, spend some money on advertising telling people how cool it is, double the price compared to their competitors and I bet half the current iPhone and iPad owners would buy it and 95% of the buyers will be happy with it.

Yet another article dissing an Apple product that hasn’t even been announced let alone exist in some form it could be, you know, actually reviewed. The author uses the phrase “I don’t see” or “I’m not sold” a few times, telling us more about his lack of imagination than Apple’s failure to see they cannot compete with Vizio (“Dude, you’re getting a Vizio!”). He apparently does not remember the predictions that Apple could not crack the phone or tablet markets either. I wouldn’t bet against Apple just yet. If (and that’s a big if) Apple does decide to design and manufacture a TV, it will be a success. Have you ever seen a Bang & Olufsen TV for sale in a store? I didn’t think so. They do a profitable business selling superbly-designed TVs to people who want the best.

I will buy an Apple TV if one comes out. If for no other reason than they will design one that will look 1000x better than any other TV on the market… and it will last. Somehow, someway, they will put something into it that all others will have to copy…

Call me a fanboy or a sheep – whatever losers, if I’m spending my money its going to be on something of quality that makes me happy. You don’t like it? Go pound sand…

“Anything” built into a TV is simply silly, tempting obsolescence, and chaining you to this unified device where you might otherwise want to update one aspect – you couldn’t update to a bigger screen size, without losing your built-in pieces or chaining yourself to another Apple TV – which certainly will carry a premium. It’s a bad path to start walking down.

A TV is a monitor, it should display what you feed it.

Having nicer input switching to accommodate more external devices (including things like a media center) would be welcome, rather than slowly and painfully cycling through inputs… but a modular approach lets you update what you want, without re-paying the premium.

Having iTunes “built into” my TV -
1) sounds about as silly as having YouTube built into my TV
2) is likely that Apple won’t allow you to hook up your own hard drive, and will charge a premium for storage upgrades
3) is likely that Apple won’t allow you to tie your PC to the TV to sync with iTunes – without buying some proprietary cable or “airplay”
4) is likely that Apple will charge a premium for the privelige of owning an Apple branded TV [which helps foster that loyalty - "the more you invest in something, the more invested you are in it's success"]

This sounds bad all around. Even if it has a nice picture.

If anything it will just be a re-brand of another manufacturers sets with the Apple additives inside. There are a lot of sheep out there though, Baaaa!
