I am a little bit of a klutz and it usually ends up that when the sun goes down I get worse. This new Nightliner Flashlight is just the thing to keep you on your feet.

It has two separate beams one is forward facing and one that points down as well. You can make it so that just the lower one is on if you are worried about it shining in someone’s eyes. My absolute favorite time to go hiking is at night, but I get annoyed by how much I have to flip the light around to keep myself upright. I think I might have to pick up one of these for myself.

The flashlight is being sold for $29.95, you can also get a 7-year warranty for it that costs $7.99. The flashlight also features an ergonomic and lightweight design for when you are carrying it for long periods of time.

I have a head-mounted version that I got six months ago for about a third of that price. So what’s the fuss about, eh?

The Gelb Design “Oval” flashlight has been around for a least a couple years though the one I am thinking had “4 narrow 5mm LEDs” instead of the “1 Watt Luxeon” this one has now.

The old 4 LED on front version had a flat 90-95 percent output 17 hour runtime before it dropped fast, though I am not sure how long this “1 Watt Luxeon” version lasts or the runtime curve despite claims of 10 Hours of bright light, then 30+ hours of diminishing output.

One beef I have with Luxeon’s and LED’s is that they do not work as well outside (as they do indoors) as a capable incandescent can do outdoors, especially at a distance of more than a few feet. (ex: Streamlight or Surefire incandescents, not the useless crap maglights)
