Don writes good link bait. These polemics are a good distraction from all the serious crap in the world that we chose to ignore.

Loyalty to a corporation is stupid. Unless you work for them they are not your friends or family. Why spend your free time advocating for them.

Buy whatever you think is best and live with it. All gadgets are lacking in one way or another, even Apple ones (and I happen to own a lot of their stuff).

in any event my apple stock is doing better than its competitions stock. i am a guy and i thought that i would never use an i pad. i thought it was for girls and nerds. since my wife bought me one. I would not dare waste the money. she gave it to me in one hand and had the return receipt in the other. I have never put it down since. i have not used my computer in months. when i was a kid i used to watch star trek. how cool would it be to talk to someone with a video picture on another space ship. now I can talk to my kids in real time on FaceTime while i am in Europe. Beam me up scotty. we will see the day that apple blows away the gaming competition.

The future of consoles, really the PRESENT, is suppplimentation. Kinect supplements the 360 experience. Vita can be used and will be used to supplement the PS3 experience while Xbox and Nintendo get new iterations.

If an Xbox 360 game was designed to be installed onto a flash drive or solid state hard drive it could be made to run even faster and would be one trick to make current Gen games look next gen. Another trick is using the Internet connection to stream a game to a device. OnLive does this and provides next gen games in some capacity to even small weak devices that have fast Internet connections.

Apps that download content from the Internet can be used to create episodic gaming with out having to maintain a large footprint on your devices memory.

If apple creates a way for a system like ONLIVE that can use a APPLEtv's hardware to supplement the limited graphics coming through the Internet connection that might give them a leg up.

Don -- what do you think about the possibility of an iPad acting as the console, with bluetooth controllers that look just like your xbox controllers, and iPad streaming video either wired or wirelessly to your HD TV? Yes, you lose the "insert DVD" thing, but I think we all know that content is going to be downloaded to your console in the future. So what about this, or some future, even more-powerful iteration of a tablet acting as your console?

Playstation 3 is a better product but I have withdrawal because there's lack of quality made games, everything is marketing blitz of the same clone made 6months ago with add ons to buy later, thats the Xbox business model. Infact Microsoft have turn this game industry into grilled cheese, everyone can make that fps game ver1-10 COD. Thank you Microsoft for destroying innovation.
Also if you're a gamer, please stop using the word "hardcore" you are destroying the english language.
The Ipad and Itune market has more new refreshing games from small start ups to big ones, even if you don't play games it's still refreshing to browse.

Oh come on, if you can plug a USB game pad (or keyboard/mouse/kinect/whatever) in to it and a hdmi connection (which you probably can't with and iPad but you will be able to on some near future tablet computer of comparable or greater processing power) then why is it any different at all from being a more advanced, more energy efficient and downright slicker console? What do we care about the shape of the device or the logo on it if the games we're playing are great? Is it some vague feeling of 'hardcoriness'. Forget about it, that's just some idea sold to you in adverts, a demographic carved and oiled by marketing men in suits. Who cares if there's casual games on a system as well - you don't have to play those, you can just play the games you like. This is like complaining about the type of film stock your movies used to be projected from or the type of paper your books were once printed on - pointless.

Whoa!!! Who put those 3.2 GHz PPC chips in the 360?!? I still had the original Xbox's 733MHz chip in my head. You're right; that 360 still more metal under there; the item that the iPhone 4S matches the 360 on is RAM.

It does look like Crytek is in the process of porting CryEngine 3 to iOS, so the software will be taken care of soon.

I see your point about the heat -- it's a huge issue.

Well, here's the problem with your breakdowns:

1. There never was a version of Crysis for the Mac.

2. Crysis is built from the ground up on DirectX, although the PS3 version MAY use OpenGL. Of that I can't be sure.

3. Just because iOS and Android have OpenGL, doesn't automatically mean they can run ANY OpenGL games. It's not that simple.

4. The iPhone 4s and the newest iPad is still nowhere near the power of the Xbox 360.

5. The Xbox 360 uses a tri-core PowerPC based CPU. Even just based on the cores and clock speed, the Xbox 360 already blows away the iPhone 4s and the newest iPad. Both devices use dual-core CPU's based on ARM.

6. Everybody knows that ARM CPU's are meant for lower power processing and were not meant to compete against the more powerful processors like Intel x86 or IBM PowerPC (used in Xbox 360).

7. The Xbox 360 has a graphics card equivalent to that of a Radeon X1850 which even though its old, still blows away the graphics ability of any iOS or Android device. The same applies for the PS3's GPU which is made by nVidia.

8. The most powerful CPU for tablets or smartphones is currently the quad-core nVidia Tegra 3. However, in benchmarks and speed tests, the Tegra 3 still loses to a high end 2004 Pentium 4 CPU. The Xbox 360 and PS3 have more powerful CPU's than a Pentium 4 so they automatically beat the most powerful tablet CPU.

9. The PS3 is roughly equivalent to the Xbox 360 in terms of overall processing power so all my points for the Xbox 360 apply to the PS3.

10. Just because a mobile device can display at 1920x1080p doesn't mean they can run a game at native 1080p resolution. Consoles, which I just proved are still more powerful, rarely run any games at native 1080p. It would take a pretty decent PC to run at native 1080p.

None of your mobile devices meet the minimum requirements for Crysis. And even if they could somehow run Crysis, the processing power it'd take would generate so much heat, more heat than a tablet's passive cooling could handle. That means running Crysis without fans in your tablet will literally cause your tablet to melt in your hands assuming you don't fry the tablet before that point.

The ONLY mobile device I can see running Crysis is perhaps a Windows 8 tablet with a Core i5 processor. Samsung has already made one of those and Dell intends to make them as well when the final version of Windows 8 is released. The Intel HD Graphics in those Core i5 CPU's might be sufficient to run Crysis at the lowest settings as long as those tablets have fans to keep it cool. Otherwise even if the Core i5, the tablet would just end up melting anyways.

General, I LOVE your comment, because it is the most relevant I have seen on this board yet!

Let's break this down:

1. Crysis runs on OpenGL on the Mac.
2. There's an OpenGL version for iOS.
3. There's an OpenGL version for Android.
4. The iPhone 4S hardware spec is equivalent to an Xbox 360.
5. The 3rd generation iPad hardware spec is equivalent (maybe even better than) a PS3.
6. Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have a hardware spec equivalent (or surpassing) the iPhone 4S.
7. Android devices like the Asus eePad memo 370t have a hardware spec equivalent (or surpassing) the 3rd generation iPad.
8. All of these mobile devices support BlueTooth for keyboard, mouse, and gamepad connectivity and most (if not all) can be connected to a big-screen HDTV at 1920x1080p resolution.

Given that your Xbox 360 and PS3 can run Crysis and Crysis2, the answer to your question is yes, these toys can run both of those games as well.

Can they run them at the same quality as your Intel 6-core i7 Extreme Edition processor with your nVidia GTX590 or Radeon 6990? Not even close, but neither can the 360 or PS3.

I have never bought a single Apple product; not one -- they charge a premium for them that I am not willing to pay. That said . . .

The iPhone 4S is as powerful as an Xbox 360 and the 3rd generation iPad can go toe-to-toe with (if not surpass) a PS3. They both support Bluetooth (think wireless game pads) and can be wired to a big-screen HDTV for a console gaming experience when you're not traveling with it.

I can say the same for Android devices and these toys are evolving and dropping in price much faster than gaming consoles, whose days are numbered.
