When Microsoft finally gets the right non power consumming Tablet computer operating system that can integrate with Microsoft Enterprise software then the Tablet computer for the Enterprise will really take off . the Ipad was not designed to be a Tablet for the microsoft Enterprise software world it was designed for Private citizens and it great at doing that. with the proper Apps it can do some Business chores but the truth is that a real windows OS based tablet is what will work best with The MS Enterprise if Microsoft can design a good tablet OS that can do the job

While Windows was originally designed for a keyboard and mouse, since WinXPTablet, it has also been designed for an active digitizer (which the HP Slate 500 has as well as a touch screen). All the "touch based technology" is, in reality, designed for a stylus, not a finger, which is why reviews of capacitive screen Windows tablets generally say that Windows doesn't work well with a tablet.

Motion Computing has carved a tablet niche for themselves by focusing on vertical markets. It will be interesting to see if HP can broaden that to the general enterprise in a way that OQO was never able to. Then again, if reviewers don't recognize the game changing significance of the Slate's dual active digitizer/touch screen, it's doubtful IT departments will.

I loved my tc1100 - it was my daily machine for about 2yrs I think. Only replaced it after the GPU gave out. I'd love to see HP release a convertible keyboard dock for the Slate 500!

In case its not obvious this article is more an analysis of the category for enterprise tablets. SlashGear covered the details of the news including hands on video of the slate if that is what you are looking for. There was no point in me duplicating that content, which is why I focused more on an analysis of the space.
