The video game world is turning me into a damn pessimist. I don't take this to be good news at all, expecially if it is or does go to 'pay to play.'

I have a general rule. I will get the software for free and pay for a subscription, or I will pay for the software and play it for free. I won't do both.

I purchased Skyrim for PC within days of it's release, and I was disappointed not only in the game itself(It was decent don't get me wrong), but especially in the quality of the graphics; I was expecting far better. It was a pretty game, but even after throwing a bunch of retexture mods on it that more than quadrupled the texture resolution, It still didn't look much better than Oblivion did with the same type of stuff installed, and far from what I expected with as much hype as they built for it and all of the claims they made.

An online version is a step back. Online games are always inferior to there standalone counterparts. I call it lazy development because they often use outdated graphics technology, ho hum game-play mechanics and then start pumping out mediocre content at high prices.

Because of this we will probably never see a new generation Elder Scrolls game. They will attach themselves to the already wildly outdated graphics and physics engine they currently use for Skyrim and focus on producing content for the MMO for as long as possible to rake in the profits and put off any real innovation or development into a new Elder Scrolls.

I am not saying that having some kind of MMO wouldn't be great - as an option, but it would have to be wildly different than existing titles, which always come off old and dated to me(I am looking at you WoW).

We need innovation and fresh development in the video game industry, not this half baked, lazy crap they are all trying to push on us.

Who knows they might surprise and really come out with something different and forward thinking. These days it is very doubtful and I won't be holding my breath for anything more than passively playable, or even playable at all if they get greedy.

I am willing to make statments with my money by choosing what to buy and what not to buy(I don't buy a lot of games these days). Why you ask?, because I am bored and disappointed with a gaming industry that hasn't done anything new and fresh for a long time. They have the technology in front of them to completely revolutionize the gaming industry all over agian in size, scope and capability and they aren't doing squat with it.
