The major issue is one of target selection and such. picking a stationary target on the ground is one thing, but one in a dynamic mid-air situation?

In my minds eye I see the drone acting as a “Missile Sled” for the lead piloted aircraft. It could act as wingman. Even in dogfighting it could be useful because it can safely pull more g’s than a pilot.

to make it work they would need a high speed data connection which causes the drone to mimick the lead. and a.i. which recognizes its relation (right, left, up, down, ahead, or behind) to the lead.

I know I’ve over simplified, but everything I’ve described technically exist.
