You seem to think that I’m on some kind of open source crusade. Not true. I’ve been an exclusive Windows user for most of my life, and in many cases I prefer the Microsoft option to others, be it software or hardware. I was merely referring to the fact that it’s strange to see that Mozilla, a company whose primary function has been competing with Microsoft for the better part of the last decade, is now partnering with them.

Also, if you’re going to use CAPITALS for EMPHASIS, you might want to learn how to spell BIASED.

… short sighted? Unless Firefox doesn’t support Google in the sameversion-it isjust an emotional tantrum. I’d suggest you let the user pick thesearch engine rather than force me rouse the one you think is best… you aren’t my big brother either… losing users due to being forced to use any particular search engine may be moredamaging than losing some devs… Google sells your location, browsing, and other data. Open source should be open choice :) YMMV.

Open source and Microsoft don’t mix well. I know several contributors to Firefox who have announced that they will no longer submit patches because of this.

Also Bing sucks and they clearly paid their way to get this. Firefox sold out.

i did a test by the way, i searched ‘chandler’
i bing’ed chandler, he’s on #4.
i google’d chandler, he’s on #3.

Well lets think for a moment who supported Mozilla Google did who back Mozilla Google did.
Seems to me they raised a bad kid that just kicked them in the head for there efforts.
Now as far as MS goes they have poor relations with any free software but thats not the point here the point is Mozilla is showing its true color and moving away from who got them going to begin with.

That was in 90′s. Old view of MS top-level executives towards open-source. Since that day there are people inside MS whose job to communicate open-source community needs to top-level. So the new MS now less hostile with open-source.

I’ve been using Mozilla since 2003. To see it offer BING instead of Google is really no big deal. Like one of the comments pointed out, Mozilla is open source, and for it to be integrated with one Search Engine over another is purely irrelevant. You can add your preferred search engine at your whim – so no biggie. The article by Michael points out that renewing the contract with Google is coming up and I see it as a perfect way for leverage. Google needs to realize that its not the only whale out in the sea.

I have faith in the Mozilla team… I believe they know what waters they are steering into.

Microsoft hatred is so 90s.
Compared to Google or even Apple they’re downright harmless these days. They still get harassed by the EU for including IE with Windows ? Seriously ? Every operating system released in the last decade includes a browser. Even the one on your phone or tablet, jeez.
Also most of their products have become pretty damn good over time, although i don’t use Bing i can see myself using Windows 7 10 years from now just like people use Windows XP computers even today.

haha, i use all three of the big browsers and i wont lie ie9 = pretty cool. On my laptop its faster than chrome in terms of launch times, although i believe it still gets owned in pretty much every rendering test. Microsoft is coming back. Also that new Nokia phone looks cool! some rare praise for a company that used to do everything but windows xp wrong :)

We’ll MS has often attacked open source, including calling it a cancer. To see Mozilla (a major open source company) promote a MS product well it all seems backwards. (Slightly extreme analogy but) It would be like reading Anne Frank collecting money for the Nazis. You just don’t send money towards a company who thinks your principles are trash and a cancer.

You may have had a point if it were GOOGLE CHROME’S browser that has a Bing’s search engine as default, but for an OPEN SOURCE one like Firefox, this is PERFECTLY DAMN FINE!!!
