Tesla in China will install free charging stations for owners

Tesla will soon be installing free charging stations in its Chinese customers' homes, the auto maker's China president Zhu Xiaotong has revealed. This comes after Elon Musk revealed that the company's sales in China dipped during the fourth quarter of last year, failing to meet the company's anticipated sales numbers. The reasons for this are being cited as possible concerns about how far one can travel in a Tesla car, and inadequate information among local buyers about the reality of charging cars rather than pumping gas into them.

The exact reason Tesla isn't doing as well as it had hoped in China isn't known, of course, but the notions in place provide a sense of direction for how the company can address the issue. Zhu revealed that Tesla is looking to have the Chinese government aid in spurring demand for its cars and the EV industry in general over the next three years.

The company is also going to be increasing its focus on customers' experiences and the service they receive; it'll also be helping turn current Tesla owners into evangelists of sort, "spokespersons" who will help increase awareness of the technology. Beyond all that, however, are the chargers.

Over the course of this year, Tesla owners will have free charging stations installed in their homes, helping ensure those driving the EV always have a topped up battery — something that will help alleviate those range-anxiety woes.
