Philips hue iPad-controlled LED lightbulbs hands-on

Colored LED lighting that could be remotely controlled used to take professional installation and thousands of dollars; now, Philips’ new hue system makes it as easy as screwing in a bulb. On sale on Tuesday – initially exclusively through Apple Stores – the hue bulbs screw into a regular ES fitting and are remotely controlled from iOS or Android apps over a ZigBee connection, either locally around the home or (handy if you’ve left the lights on while you’re on holiday) anywhere with an internet connection. They’re hardly a cheap replacement to a standard incandescent bulb, though, so we spent some time with Philips to find out why hue is special, and how the system could actually make us happier or more productive.

Peel Fruit turns iPhone into show-suggesting universal remote

Another day, another iPhone remote control system that turns your Apple smartphone into a universal remote. Hot on the heels of RedEye's offering comes Peel, with a slightly different approach to the hardware/software hybrid setup. As well as the Peel software app, you get a bright yellow IR dongle called the Peel Fruit which hooks up via a ZigBee connection to an ethernet dongle - called the Peel Cable - on your router, and controls your A/V equipment. TI unveils industry’s first 2.4GHz SoC for ZigBee RF4CE remote controls

TI has unveiled a new SoC that is the first in the industry to use 2.4GHz tech for a fully optimized ZigBee RF4CE remote control. Cool PJs for infants lets parents sleep soundly

When my kids were small infants my wife used to worry that they were just going to stop breathing at night. It would usually work like this; she would wake me from a dead sleep and tell me to check the baby to be sure he is breathing.
