Ocean Empire Super Yacht is Self-Sustainable, Costs $17 Million

, Jan 19th 2011 Discuss [3]

$17 million for a self-sustainable super yacht may seem like a steal to some people. But, as many yachts have proven in the past, it's all about the features on board that make the price make more sense. For the Ocean Empire, being called the first-ever zero carbon life support vessel isn't good enough. No, the designers wanted to make sure that there's plenty of eco-friendly elements, along with plenty of room for people to live their day-to-day lives on board. Read The Full Story

Yacht Concept Shows That Huge Boats Can Fly [Video]

, Jan 14th 2011 Discuss [0]

Yachts are generally a good way for a concept to become reality. There's generally enough money being tossed around at any given moment on a yacht that, say, including an iPad-controlled thermostat (and many other functions) just seems logical, and not superfluous. But, there's a line where you have to look at a design, especially for something like a yacht, and just shake your head. Perhaps even roll up the plans, and start working on something else. For designer Phil Pauley, having a dream is one thing -- but making it a reality is something entirely different. Read The Full Story

Solemates Superyacht Lets Passengers and Crew Control Some Features with iPads

, Dec 28th 2010 Discuss [2]

It's been a few days since a yacht has graced the front page of SlashGear, so let's rectify that. Of course, a yacht isn't a yacht if it doesn't have a bunch of luxury items on it, making it not only look good, but also look expensive. Much like an iPad with an 18K gold Apple logo does. The Solemates Suepryacht certainly does its best to make sure that everyone knows it looks expensive, and if you do manage to step inside it, you'll realize why you'll have to pay a bit extra to spend any time therein. Thanks to Apple's iPad tablet device, crew members and passengers alike will be able to control features of the ship, right from the device. Read The Full Story

Strand Design 166 superyacht has sportscar garage, optional bullet-proof Samurai leather

, Dec 24th 2010 Discuss [2]

You might remember Gray Design's Strand Craft 122, a sleek, curvaceous yacht which integrated a garage for a sports car to take you from the marina to your choice of restaurant. For some, though, a mere 122 feet is far too unimpressive; what they'll be wanting is the Strand Craft 166, a new superyacht that has the same handy garage but a whole lot more space on-board. Tag Yachts Shows Off the Tang Catamaran, Features Wind Charged Lithium-Ion Battery

, Oct 4th 2010 Discuss [0]

It may not be the only ec-friendly boat on the water, but it's certainly one of the coolest looking ones. This particular catamaran is wind-powered, and features a lithium-ion battery inside as well. Interestingly enough, though, the designers and architects made it possible for the Tang, which is the name of the vessel, to run on wind energy, even when the sails are down. Read The Full Story

Yacht Turns Into a Submarine

, Jun 14th 2010 Discuss [2]

Yachts are one of those things that, the moment you get the extra --extra-- money to get one, you get one. No doubt about it, they're a great indicator of how rich you are. Is there any better way to show off than to have a mansion that can sail the seven seas? Probably not. Unless, if that mansion that can sail the seven seas can also dive into the seven seas. Here's the U-010, and it's a yacht that, upon command, can turn into a submarine. Read The Full Story

I am a landlubber; I have never felt the call of the ocean. I haven’t even been on a cruise. Even if I were filthy rich, I can’t see myself buying a yacht to cruise the world in. If you are the yachting type and like the thought of a ship to carrying across the world's oceans, the Strand Craft 122 is the most awesome yacht I have ever seen. Read The Full Story
