This, if Engadget's anonymous tipster is to be believed, is Sony Ericsson's unannounced XPERIA X2, the smartphone that will eventually replace the company's XPERIA X1.  Bearing a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, as with its predecessor, and what looks to be a curved profile, the X2 - codenamed "Vulcan" - bears the X Panel shortcut Sony Ericsson use to trigger their panel GUI. After yesterday's in-the-wild sighting, it's time for some more live shots of Sony Ericsson's Idou smartphone.  This time courtesy of fony.sk, it's a chance to see how the Idou holds up compared to the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 and Nokia E71.  It's hard to tell what stage the Idou's Symbian Foundation OS is at compared to yesterday's version, but the menus do look more complete. Some European owners of Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 smartphone are reporting cracks appearing in their handsets.  The issue, which appears to be predominantly affecting the silver version of the device, is generally observed near the stylus bay or battery compartment.  More than 24 cases have been identified at XDA-Developers. Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 hits US November 28th for $800

Sony Ericsson have finally confirmed the US launch date for their XPERIA X1 smartphone.  The Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro device - which has both a WVGA touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard - is available for preorder from today, with delivery and in-store sales beginning November 28th.  As for the price, unsubsidized the SE XPERIA X1 will cost $799.99.  That gets you quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850/1900/2100MHz) which, you might have noticed, does not include T-Mobile USA's commonly-used 1700MHz band. Saab 9-X Air concept has remote XPERIA X1 control

Saab have partnered with Sony Ericsson to bring remote control of its latest vehicle to the touchscreen of the XPERIA X1.  Demonstrated at the launch of the Saab 9-X Air concept at the Paris Motor Show last week, the system would allow XPERIA X1 owners to remotely control ambient lighting, lock the car, control seating, switch the lights on and off, and open the rear compartment, all via Bluetooth. Sony Ericsson XPERIA Panel Interface SDK released

Sony Ericsson have released the SDK for their upcoming Panel Interface, which will debut on the XPERIA X1 smartphone.  While the smartphone is based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, the Panel Interface is Sony Ericsson's attempt to make the GUI more user-friendly.  With the release of the free SDK, the company is hoping that developers will begin creating alternate functionality with distribution via an on-device Panel browser. Android is coming, how will handset manufacturers handle the relationship between their Windows Mobile handsets and Android handsets?

Android phones are starting to slowly come out of the woodwork with no official production ready models being announced yet. However there is an event in London involving HTC on May 6th, a company that vowed to release the first Android phone. They are also known for making some of the best Windows Mobile handsets that are on the market. So the question is, how does Microsoft feel about this, and more specifically, how will manufacturers like HTC keep the peace within their own companies? It just wouldn’t make sense for mobile phone manufacturers like HTC to make the exact same phone twice just offering your choice of Android or Windows Mobile, it would kind of be nice, but exclusive handsets tipped to one OS or the other are what really moves units. For example, would the XPERIA X1 be such a big deal if it wasn’t running the next generation of Windows Mobile software? Maybe, but I’d guess not. Read The Full Story

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 delayed?
