Mazda wants you to design an MX-5 for Forza Horizon 2

This week the folks at Mazda North America Operations (MNAO) are teaming up with Microsoft's Xbox division to push both the game Forza Horizon 2 and the 2016 Mazda MX-5. To do this, they're bringing a Mazda-branded hub to Xbox One and Xbox 360 units this winter. Players will be asked to work with the Livery Design of the 1994 Mazda MX-5 available in the game, coming up with the most innovative or otherwise eye-catching design they're able. Two finalists will be brought to South by Southwest for a bit of a final showdown.

Why Xbox One could win the holiday gaming war

Why Xbox One could win the holiday gaming war

As a longtime gamer, I’ve seen the ups and downs that befall even the greatest of video game companies. I’ve watched companies like SEGA and Nintendo rise and fall, I’ve watched Sony take a few missteps, and I’ve watched Microsoft become an important player in today’s marketplace. At the risk of dating myself, I even remember the good ol’ days of Atari rising and falling and an odd device named the 3DO failing to captivate gamers (well, besides me, who still finds time to play it from time to time).

Assassin’s Creed: Victory – 2015’s AC heads to London

Assassin’s Creed: Victory – 2015’s AC heads to London

Victorian Era London has been leaked as the next big location for Ubisoft's yearly Assassin's Creed release. This game will be sent out to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One and is currently code-named - or perhaps named in the end - Assassin's Creed Victory. Assassin's Creed Unity was originally code-named Unity, so we could very well see the same sort of situation take hold here. Screenshots of this game have leaked alongside the name and location, showing how far along this game is in development - or at least in presentation.

Xbox One won the Black Friday battle says research

Microsoft's Xbox One may be lagging behind the PlayStation 4 when it comes to hitting sales milestones, but the console proved to be the winner when it came to Black Friday demand, with one analysis firm declaring it the clear leader in retail interest. InfoScout crunched the sales numbers on over 180,000 receipts from US shoppers on Friday, November 31, and found that more than half of all consoles bought were the Xbox One. However, while it was forced into second place, the PS4 still had a better year than in 2013.

HTC One for Windows nabs an Xbox Dot View cover

Today we're having a quick peek at the Xbox Dot View cover - a sort of limited-engagement release made specifically for the Windows Phone version of the HTC One (M8). This case works exactly the same as the standard HTC Dot View cover, but here you're getting it in Xbox Green. You've also got the Xbox brand on the back, for good measure. This case is part of a push for the HTC One (M8) with Windows this holiday season, coming with the device with Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile inside the United States.

Xbox One and HBO Go, together at last

Xbox One and HBO Go, together at last

The days of gaming consoles fighting to get exclusive games is far from over, but it’s no longer the only battleground for consumers to be making their decision on which to purchase. Now that we’re in an era of endless streaming, gaming consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One vie to be your only living room device (save for the TV). To that end, Microsoft has brought in a much needed boost for the Xbox One, as the console will now have native HBO Go.

Titanfall re-released as “Deluxe Edition”

This week you'll find the re-release of Titanfall as Titanfall Deluxe Edition for PC and eventually Xbox One. This version of the game will cost LESS than the original release of the game and will include all DLC released since the game was originally launched. This should serve to summon a new wave of players to the game to keep the game going strong online. Titanfall is an entirely online-based game, running on Microsoft's Azure servers across the planet - without players, there is no Titanfall.

Xbox One chopped to $330 at GameStop for Black Friday

In a leaked paper insert for GameStop's Black Friday it's been revealed that the Assassin's Creed Unity / Assassin's Creed Black Flag combo box will be even less expensive than the already-cut prices from Microsoft. On the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, you'll be able to pick up the Xbox One "Holiday Value Bundle" for $329.99 USD. That's $70 less than the standard price, or $20 cheaper than the cheapest price the Xbox One has ever been - without the games, mind you. Before Microsoft's business.

Should you give Ubisoft a break on Assassin’s Creed Unity?

Should you give Ubisoft a break on Assassin’s Creed Unity?

This week is not a great one for Ubisoft. They've been hit relatively hard for their slightly lackluster release of Assassin's Creed: Unity, with reviewers finding the game less than perfect in some cases and downright unplayable in others. But what if Ubisoft had waited? What if they delayed again - past the two weeks delay they'd noted back in August? At what point does it make sense to release a product that's unfinished? At what point does a development team have to stop and release?
