Microsoft has promised one-month of free Xbox LIVE Gold service to any gamers affected by the Cloud Saved Games system going offline, having finally fixed the issues that caused the unexpected downtime. The free service extension, which will be applied automatically to eligible gamers' accounts according to Microsoft's Major Nelson, will be tagged onto the end of current subscriptions.

As it turns out, Microsoft is experiencing some problem with Xbox Live at the moment, which is causing a couple of different headaches. The first (obviously) is that Xbox Live cloud storage is currently inaccessible, while the second involves Xbox.com going down for some users.

Leftover Halo 4 features found lurking in game code
We all know that a game changes very frequently during the development process - some features get fully implemented and make it to the finished product, while others are only partially developed and ultimately get left on the cutting room floor. It's no different with Halo 4, and today we're finding out that there were a couple particularly cool armor abilities 343 Industries had to do away with before shipping the game. They were discovered by the folks at TheHaloCouncil, who did a little bit of digging in Halo 4's code and filmed a video showing off these armor abilities that almost were.

The Tomb Raider franchise will be getting a highly anticipated reboot next year, but when this new game arrives, it will be sporting some features that series veterans will find unfamiliar. Why 2012 was a great year for gaming
2012 was an interesting year in many respects, but it was a particularly interesting year for gaming. 2012 had its share of ups and down, but looking back on the year as a whole, I’d say that it was ultimately good for gamers, developers, and the industry in general. A lot happened throughout the year, and even though we saw vitriol from gamers climb to pretty frightening heights in some cases, there were some pretty cool things happening that you may not have noticed. Needless to say, if 2012 was any indication, then 2013 should be one of gaming’s biggest years yet.
Battlefield 3 End Game DLC first details revealed
With DICE and Electronic Arts supporting Battlefield 3 with DLC for well over a year now, it's been a pretty great ride for players. Borderlands 2 Hammerlock DLC dated, level cap increase coming next year
Anxious to get your hands on Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, the latest DLC announced for Borderlands 2?
