When announcements are imminent, or even weeks away, it gets to the point where every day seems to be filled with he-said she-said shenanigans, and no company is left out in this process. Especially the big ones. Microsoft happens to be one of those big ones, and considering the news from Sony this last week, everyone is (im)patiently waiting for the Xbox 360 to follow suit. And while many thought it was going to happen at GamesCon, it looked like Sony’s announcement of the same material might have swayed that decision.

Here we go again with another week in review for your perusal. A mystery Android-powered MID tipped up this week looking very much like those renderings of the Apple tablet to my eyes. It’s cool to see android showing up on so many devices. Logitech unveiled an update to the coolest racing wheel ever, the G25, called simply enough the G27. The new wheel promises more accurate force feedback effects and keeps with the slick clutch and gated shifter we loved from the G25.

Someone needs to take Microsoft aside and tell them that sometimes the obvious penny savings still aren’t the ones to make.  According to several GameStop employees, Microsoft have not only changed the packaging of the Xbox 360 Elite, but yanked the HDMI cables out of there too.  In fact, they’ve made changes to the included accessories that – out of the box at least – limit new users to SD resolution graphics.

Whether or not you’ve had an Xbox 360 or not, doesn’t really matter when it comes to hearing about the dreaded Red Ring of Death (RRoD) situation, and for many people, it looks like it may be the bane of their life. At least when it comes to gaming. Game Informer’s printed magazine came out with a new report, after surveying 5,000 people, that shows a staggering 54.2% failure rate. We have the rest of their findings, which show some more of the grisly details.

microsoft xbox 360 60gbAccording to information supplied to Eurogamer, would-be Xbox 360 buyers in the UK may have to budget a little more for their gaming fix.  Chain retailer Argos had updated their listing of the Xbox 360 60GB model to say “We are very sorry, but Microsoft have discontinued this line”, since removed, while an unnamed smaller retailer had come forward to corroborate the discontinuation as well as suggest that the Xbox 360 Arcade bundle will in fact be seeing a price increase in the UK.

Microsoft have begun to push out the Xbox LIVE update for their Xbox 360 console, and along with the games on demand, new avatar customization and UI improvements comes confirmation that the company has signed an exclusive deal with Netflix for instant streaming to a console.  The partnership means that the Xbox 360 will be the only console on which Netflix streaming is possible, effectively cutting the PlayStation 3 and Wii out of the loop.

Eagle-eyed GameStop employees have spotted a change in Microsoft’s box-art for the Xbox 360 Arcade, the most obvious difference being the removal of the Xbox 360 Pro from the comparison chart.  As you can see in the image below (old box on the left, new box on the right), only two Xbox 360 packages are now listed, with Microsoft seemingly intending to discontinue their “entry” model.
