Why 2012 was a great year for gaming

2012 was an interesting year in many respects, but it was a particularly interesting year for gaming. 2012 had its share of ups and down, but looking back on the year as a whole, I’d say that it was ultimately good for gamers, developers, and the industry in general. A lot happened throughout the year, and even though we saw vitriol from gamers climb to pretty frightening heights in some cases, there were some pretty cool things happening that you may not have noticed. Needless to say, if 2012 was any indication, then 2013 should be one of gaming’s biggest years yet.

Battlefield 3 End Game DLC first details revealed

With DICE and Electronic Arts supporting Battlefield 3 with DLC for well over a year now, it's been a pretty great ride for players. All good things must come to an end though, and this steady stream of Battlefield 3 DLC will be wrapping up with the release of the fifth and final pack, End Game. Borderlands 2 Hammerlock DLC dated, level cap increase coming next year

Anxious to get your hands on Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, the latest DLC announced for Borderlands 2? Luckily, you don't have too much longer to wait, as a new post on the Borderlands 2 Blog says it'll be available for Xbox 360 and PC on January 15. Halo 4 ban affected less than 200 gamers

Microsoft released a new map pack for Halo 4 about a week ago, and some gamers were reporting that they were getting banned after accessing the new Crimson map pack. Of course, this seemed to be a bug on Microsoft's end, and while it seemed like it was a huge fiasco where thousands of gamers were getting banned, Microsoft has announced that the bug only affected 200 gamers in total. SportsPicks app launches on Xbox 360

If you're a sports fan who owns an Xbox 360, a new app is available for you to download that will let you pick winners in various sports. The app is called SportsPicks and it will let you pick winners for the big games of the day or week and compete with fellow Xbox Live users to see who can make the best picks. Borderlands 2 declared Raptr’s most played new game of the year

Borderlands 2 was undoubtedly one of the biggest games of the year, and now game tracking service Raptr is giving it all sorts of year-end awards. According to Raptr, Borderlands 2 was the Most Played New Game of the Year among its tracked players, which isn't surprising considering it's such a blast to play with friends. Borderlands 2 Hammerlock DLC suffers big leak

Over the last several years, video games have been becoming more and more interactive with new and innovative controls. Borderlands 2 patch fixes rank resets on 360, new DLC confirmed

A while back, we heard about a pretty nasty Borderlands 2 bug that was resetting players' badass ranks and the stat boosts they had purchased with badass tokens. It was an issue that had a lot of players upset, but Xbox 360 players are finally receiving a fix in the latest Borderlands 2 update. The fix restores badass rank and will reissue the badass tokens you earned while exploring Pandora, letting you increase your stat bonuses back to where they were or go a completely different route this time around. Assassin’s Creed III hits 7 million sold, Ubisoft shares insane stats

It looks like placing the Assassin's Creed series in an entirely different setting has worked wonders for the series, as Assassin's Creed III has officially sold over 7 million copies. This milestone comes just over a month after the game launched for Xbox 360 and PS3, which is pretty impressive for any game that doesn't have "Call of Duty" in the title. Twonky Beam now supports Xbox 360 and Roku

Twonky Beam, the iOS and Android app that beams online videos to your TV from your mobile device, is now compatible with the Xbox 360 and Roku devices.
