Your WWDC 2012 preparation guide: MacBook Pro and iOS 6 for everybody

This week we're getting prepped for one of the larger Apple events of the year, that being the Wordwide Developers Conference 2012. This conference is billed as "the weeek we've all been waiting for" by Apple and is sure to bring on more than just software - as we've seen in years past - but hardware as well. We'll be bringing you all of the action live from our WWDC livecast portal as well as here in the main news feed, but before we get there, have a look at our pre-event guide.

We’ve been hearing reports for a while now that Apple is planning to overhaul the MacBook Pros at WWDC to include Retina displays as well as new Intel Ivy Bridge processors. 9to5Mac has once again heard from sources saying that several products in the Mac range will be seeing updates, and not just the MacBook Pros. Sources indicate that two 15-inch MacBook Pro configurations with Retina displays will be released.

iOS 6 release set for Facebook integration

iOS 6 release set for Facebook integration

Apple has been tipped this week as shaking hands with Facebook in a very real way with the end result being a realease of iOS 6 with full Facebook integration. This expansion of the Apple mobile operating system for use on the future iPhone 5 as well as the iPad 3 and beyond has been tipped by a source speaking with TechCrunch with not a whole lot of hard facts to surround the idea included. That of course is essentially irrelevant at this point due to the fact that Facebook and Apple have been moving ever closer to one another for years, with cross-integration being an inevitability - it's only been when, not if.

Expect these three things at Apple’s WWDC 2012 Keynote

On the 11th of June at 10AM PST, we'll be liveblogging the Apple WWDC 2012 official keynote, but before we get there, we've got some educated hypothesizing to do. First we must decide if its possible that Apple would release one or several new devices or device refreshes at that event. Next, we've got to assess how important it is that Apple push forward with new software in this ever-changing mobile-minded world of ours. Finally, we've got to set the stage for the event itself - gotta get prepped!

iCloud upgrade has Ping-like aspirations

iCloud upgrade has Ping-like aspirations

The next upgrade for Apple's iCloud may well have the company moving into the social networking realm once again with photo sharing in the same vein as ultra-popular photo application Instagram. This report comes from the Wall Street Journal whose sources say that the upgrade will be coming in the form of an iCloud Beta release first for developers at WWDC 2012. This upgrade will have users sharing sets of photos between iCloud accounts, much in the same way that Instagram shares within its own network before sharing outward toward Twitter, Facebook, and the like.

iPhone 5 groundwork being set at WWDC

iPhone 5 groundwork being set at WWDC

This June we'll be seeing some fabulous Apple upgrades at WWDC, but the iPhone 5 itself will not be making an appearance - at least not in its full final form. Instead from what we've gathered over the last few weeks in leaks and tips popping up until and including today, we'll see much of the groundwork and preparations being made for the release of that titanic smartphone release set for a late summer release, a release which, including an iCloud upgrade, improved Apple-run Maps, and hardware updates galore, will be strewn with next-level zazz. What WWDC will hold is the cradle which will eventually surround the iPhone 5.
