Rumors that Apple is planning a new integrated 3G option for its MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptop ranges have once again been ignited, after a job advert for the company sought a communications engineer responsible for wireless testing including 3G WAN.  The advert, since taken down from Apple’s own pages but still available here, described an individual who would be responsible for “testing and reporting hardware, software, and device driver bugs for Communications technologies including AirPort (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth v2.0, gigabit Ethernet, and/or 3G Wireless WAN in a detailed, timely manner.”

Is this the new Amazon Kindle DX?  According to one source, you’re looking at Amazon’s new, larger-screen ebook reader, complete with a 9.7-inch E Ink display (versus the Kindle 2’s 6-inch panel) and QWERTY keyboard squeezed down to the very bottom.  As we suggested might be the case yesterday, it looks like textbooks, not newspapers, are the Kindle DX’s target: at least one university has claimed to be taking part in a trial where students will be provided with the new device and preloaded textbooks.

picture 1Fans of the Nokia XpressMusic phones rejoice! You can now get your hands on the 5800 XpressMusic in the U.S. on Cincinnati Bell Wireless. While you could buy the device in the country before, you could only do so at an unsubsidized price, shelling out about $400.

On Cincinnati Bell, the smartphone will cost $149 with a two-year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate. But besides the lower price, this device remains the same as it is in other countries and as it’s unsubsidized counterpart.

Standard features include GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 3.2-inch 360 x 640 touchscreen, a web browser and more. We don’t know if the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will make it to other U.S. carriers, but for now, at least you have one option.

I’m a sucker for a pretty MID concept, and this is one of the slickest I’ve seen in a long time.  The handiwork of Jan Rytir, what’s particularly appealing – aside from the slick curved-slide QWERTY keyboard – are the seven colored shortcut tabs along the edge, which are pleasingly reminiscent of a Filofax.

T-Mobile Cameo price slashed

By Chris Davies on Thursday, Apr 30th 2009 No Comments

T-Mobile USA’s Cameo wireless digital photo frame always faired well in reviews for its usability and functionality, but less palatable were the sticker price and monthly service charge.  At launch, the photo frame – which can receive images via MMS or email over T-Mobile’s cellular network – cost $99.99 while the monthly fee was $9.99; now the carrier has apparently dropped those costs to just $39.99 and $1.99 respectively.
