Cable companies team up for CableWiFi hotspots

Netgear intros 802.11ac R6200 router and A6200 adapter

Netgear was the first company to announce a 802.11ac router, capable of delivering wireless speeds of up to 1300Mbit/s throughout the home. That router isn’t shipping yet, but Netgear has announced two further 802.11ac products: the cheaper R6200 router, and the A6200 adapter. The R6200 router isn’t as feature rich as the R6300, but the A6200 adapter at least means you can now take advantage of the new speeds 802.11ac offers. Read The Full Story

Buffalo WZR-D1800H 802.11ac router shipping now

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Netgear unveiled the first 802.11ac wireless router, promising wireless transfer speeds of up to 1300Mbit/s. They may have been the first to announce such a router, but Buffalo seems to be the first to actually ship one, today announcing the AirStation WZR-D1800H router and WLI-H4-D1300 wireless bridge. NVIDIA and partner acquire 500 wireless patents

NVIDIA has partnered with Intellectual Ventures in order to acquire roughly 500 patents owned by IPWireless. All the patents revolve around wireless technologies, including 3G, LTE, and LTE-Advanced. The acquisition closed on April 30th, but the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. IPWireless will retain access to the patents royalty-free, with the portfolio split between NVIDIA and Intellectual Ventures. Read The Full Story

Twine and Pebble reveal “Internet of things” on your wrist

Two of the most successful Kickstarter projects of all time, the Twine internet-of-things gadget and the Pebble e-paper smartwater, will work together, it has been announced. Thanks to cooperation between the two teams, real-world alerts from Twine will be flagged up on the Pebble watch, such as when someone knocks on your door or if your washing machine is leaking. Galaxy S III wireless charging kit delayed until September

Samsung's Wireless Charging Kit for the Samsung Galaxy S III won't be available until September 2012, nearly four months after the quadcore smartphone itself goes on sale. The staggered release, confirmed to SlashGear by UK retailer MobileFun, hasn't been explained by Samsung, though will nonetheless come as a disappointment to those hoping to cut the cord with their new HD Super AMOLED toy. Aperion announces ARIS wireless speaker for Windows

Aperion has announced a new wireless speaker that should make things somewhat easier, being able to connect to sources over wireless and ethernet. FCC CEO spectrum keynote comes from an iPad

This week FCC CEO Julius Genachowski spoke on the expansion of spectrum across the board to carriers and how "we need to see improvements in efficiency in networks and devices" across the board. This speech had many of the same talking points coming up that the FCC had spoken on several times before, with items like "We'll of course continue to monitor competition in the wireless industry and take action where necessary" being talking points. What's perhaps more interesting to Apple fans than any of this, strangely enough, is the fact that this entire speech was done from an iPad. Read The Full Story

CTIA 2012 Chairman promises spectrum expansion for all

This year at CTIA, the FCC is heading up the CTIA event with commitments to sustainability through both the FCC CEO and the newest CTIA chairman Patrick Riordan of CellCom. Speaking at the first keynote of the event, Riordan noted that The Wireless Association would be bringing forth a renewed dedication to protecting against cyber attacks and would be attempting to inspire innovation and enhance productivity in all things wireless.
