Microsoft have confirmed that its remote security functionality in My Phone, the free smartphone backup service that will be preloaded on Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, will be a paid-extra. Users will be able to backup their contacts, SMS messages, media and other data from their handset, as well as access it and share it via Windows Live, Facebook, My Space, and Flickr through the web portal free of charge; however, to remotely ring, lock or wipe that device will require a fee.

HTC HD2 Windows Phone gets official: Hands-on Video
After weeks of rumor, HTC have confirmed the existence of their latest flagship Windows Phone, the HTC HD2 (aka the HTC Leo). As expected, the HD2 runs Windows Mobile 6.5 on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen and 5-megapixel autofocus camera; it’s also the first Windows Phone to support both multitouch and HTC Sense. Perhaps best of all, HTC CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that HTC will be offering a US 3G version of the HD2 in Q1 2010. SlashGear sat down with Chou earlier on today to get a preview of the HD2 and find out more about HTC’s focus moving forward.

HTC Touch2 Windows Phone review
Windows Mobile 6.5 is arriving with a fanfare, and a number of high-end Windows Phones to demonstrate Microsoft’s latest OS’ flexibility. Not every device is a do-everything uber-phone, however; part of Windows Mobile’s strength is that it also does duty on relatively entry-level handsets. The HTC Touch2 – replacement to the original HTC Touch – is one such device; what it lacks in bells & whistles, it attempts to make up for in simplicity. AT&T HTC Pure Windows Phone review
AT&T’s first Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone, the HTC Pure, has some reasonable heritage; while the casing may look new, the guts of the handset are shared with HTC’s Touch Diamond2. Back when we reviewed the Diamond2 in May, we described it as the best Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone on the market, and suggested it was well placed for the promised update to 6.5. Windows Mobile 6.5 Review
It’s been more than eighteen months since Microsoft pushed Windows Mobile 6.1 out of the door, itself a relatively minor update to a smartphone platform dating back to February 2007. In that time, Apple have shaken the smartphone segment to its core with the iPhone, Google and Palm have launched Android and webOS respectively, and so-called feature-phones have punctuated a consumer market ever-more mature in its mobile demands. Verizon HTC Imagio Windows Phone review
A thoughtful person might look at the Verizon Imagio and decide that it’s almost HTC delivering the Touch HD (Review part 1 & part 2) that their US audience never officially had. HTC HD2 (aka Leo) reveal tipped for Tuesday
We probably shouldn't be too surprised, what with Windows Mobile 6.5 making its official debut tomorrow, but according to ai.rs' source HTC will be taking the wraps off of the HTC HD2 (aka HTC Leo) on Tuesday too. The 4.3-inch Qualcomm Snapdragon smartphone won't actually be anywhere near shelves tomorrow, mind; we'll apparently have to wait until the end of October or the start of November for that to happen.

HTC Touch HD2 full spec list revealed
HTC's HD2 (aka the HTC Leo) keeps showing up in various carriers' promo material, though since they only ever say "biggest WinMo phone yet!" it's been hard to pin down exact specifications. Happily, that's all changed thanks to one talkative xda-developers board member; he's managed to sneak out the full spec sheet - which you can read after the cut - together with a few new live photos of the smartphone itself.

Flash 10.1 unveiled: smartphone betas coming, HD GPU acceleration added
Adobe have upgraded their Flash offensive, with the news this week that the next version - Flash 10.1 - will run across not only desktop but mobile and smartphone platforms. Taking advantage of the Open Screen Project (OSP), the new version will arrive as a Windows Mobile and webOS beta before the year is out, while early in 2010 we'll get Android and Symbian versions. Finally, while there's no release date for 10.1 yet given, RIM have signed up to the OSP meaning BlackBerry devices will also get Flash support.

AT&T HTC Pure and Tilt 2 with WinMo 6.5 arrive
With Windows Mobile 6.5 set to make its official debut tomorrow, Tuesday October 6th, AT&T have outed a couple of new smartphones based on the Microsoft OS. They're not unfamiliar devices, however; the AT&T HTC Pure is the carrier's re-shelled HTC Touch Diamond2, while the AT&T HTC Tilt 2 is their HTC Touch Pro2. As well as the updated OS, each handset has 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth.

T-Mobile HTC Touch HD2 “coming soon” catalog leaks
Having heard talk yesterday of the HTC HD2 getting a release on UK carrier T-Mobile (as well as earlier mutterings regarding an O2 launch as well), now an anonymous tipster has delivered what looks to be a screenshot confirming it. Dropped into CoolSmartPhone's inbox, the image (which, we have to say, would be pretty straightforward to mock-up if you were so inclined) names the Windows Phone as the HTC Touch HD2.

Acer 2010 smartphone range to be more than 50% Android?
Acer look to be following in the footsteps of HTC, with the company rumored to be planning to shift much of its focus from Windows Mobile to Android. According to the usual, shadowy "industry sources" that hang out in the bars DigiTimes frequents, Acer intends at least half of its new handsets in 2010 to be based on the Google-led Android platform.
