Verizon Diamond 2 and HTC Mega renders leak

New shots of the upcoming Verizon Diamond 2 (on the left) and the entry-level HTC Mega (on the right) have leaked, courtesy of WMExperts.  The Diamond 2, tipped to hit Verizon in September or October this year, has a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera with image stabilization, and a distinctive mesh casing.

Windows Mobile 6.5 build 23022 gets finger-friendly [Video]

More details and screenshots of the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 build, version 23022, have emerged, complete with a video demo of the new OS in action.  Key among the differences this time around are the new, finger-friendly buttons such as those you can see in the bottom softkey bar; they're part of Microsoft's attempt to do away with the stylus for regular interaction with your smartphone.

Windows Mobile 6.5 final build gets video demo on Diamond2

Microsoft have been giving impromptu demonstrations of Windows Mobile 6.5, showing what's said to be "the final build" of the upcoming smartphone OS to The Inquirer.  Installed on an HTC Touch Diamond2, the platform includes the latest redesign of the UI, including 24-bit menu icons, together with Flash support and the Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 gets WM6.5 video demo

Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X2 has been showing up more and more frequently over the past few weeks, and now there's an almost six minute video of the Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone in action.  The video - in which the XPERIA X2 is referred to by its internal codename, "Vulcan" - runs through the new Microsoft platform, as well as showing a few glimpses of what looks to be Sony Ericsson's own "Panels" UI.

HP's iPAQ K3 Obsidian has shown up in the wild, complete with the AT&T branding that you might expect given that the Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone was first tipped in leaked documents from the carrier.  The full QWERTY candybar has a 2.43-inch AMOLED touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, 3G and WiFi.

HTC Leo render emerges: is this the Touch HD successor?

A new render of what's tipped to be the HTC Leo (aka the Firestone) has emerged, said to be the company's Windows Mobile 6.5 successor to the HTC Touch HD.  According to the unnamed source of the image, the smartphone will have an externally-accessible microSD card slot and large speakers on both the front and back for audio use.

HTC Leo specs leak: 4.3-inch capacitive WM6.5 Snapdragon smartphone

Details of an upcoming HTC Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone, the HTC Leo, have leaked, and if you thought the Toshiba TG01 had a big display then prepare for even more surprise.  Like the TG01, the Leo is based on Qualcomm's MSM8250 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, only with a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen.

Windows Mobile 6.5.1 ROM gets video demo

The latest build of Windows Mobile 6.5, version 21925, has leaked, showing Microsoft's latest attempts to accommodate fingertip control on the platform.  Going by the screenshots, Microsoft have done away with many of the tabbed pages and instead replaced them with swipe-gestures and large, easily pressed arrow controls.

Acer F1 Snapdragon smartphone, plus A1 Android handset, tipped from September

Acer haven’t been especially shy about their smartphone plans but, according to the latest leaks over in Taiwan, the company could be closer to launching their range than originally suspected.  The Acer F1 shown here – together with the A1, C1/E1 and L1 – will apparently arrive “at the end of September and in the fourth quarter of this year”.

Windows Marketplace for Mobile submissions from July 27th; coming to existing 6.0 & 6.1 devices

Having just mentioned Windows Marketplace for Mobile as an aside to Apple’s 1.5bn App Store downloads, we’ve now a little more information regarding developers’ access to the store and one which devices it will run.  At the Worldwide Partner Conference this week, Microsoft have announced that mobile app submissions will be accepted from July 27th.

Contrary to initial reports that the Marketplace would run solely on Windows Mobile 6.5 devices and above, Microsoft have also confirmed that the download store will be available on WM6.0 and 6.1 by the end of 2009.  Given the number of devices in circulation running WM6.1 alone, and uncertainties about which smartphones will be eligible for 6.5 upgrades, that certainly makes sense for widening Microsoft’s user base.

Toshiba TG01 hits Orange UK on July 10th [Video]

We're not sure whether Orange have scooped Toshiba in advance of their event later on today, or this is all carefully planned, but the carrier has announced it will exclusively be offering the Toshiba TG01 from July 10th.  Already on sale with Orange France, the UK version of the handset will be priced from free with a £39.15 ($63) 24-month contract with unlimited on-device browsing.
