We caught up with HTC this morning to check out their new Windows Phones, the HTC Touch Diamond2 and the HTC Touch Pro2, as announced yesterday.  Say what you like about the Microsoft OS, HTC have put together a pair of slick handsets, taking the best of the original Diamond and Pro and packing in extra screen size, more sensible hardware controls and higher-capability media functionality.

Acer DX650 double-sided GPS smartphone leaks

The first of Acer's upcoming smartphones, tipped for launch at their MWC announcement next week, has leaked, and it's certainly an interesting looking device.  The Acer DX650 is a dual-sided Windows Mobile smartphone, with a traditional 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen on one side, and a full numeric keypad and 1.27-inch 128 x 96 monochrome OLED display on the reverse.  More Acer DX650 images after the cut Read The Full Story

Garmin-ASUS nuvifone M20: GPS-obsessed WM6.1 smartphone

As promised, the first new devices out of the Garmin-ASUS partnership are beginning to show their hand.  First up is the Garmin-ASUS nuvifone M20, a 2.8-inch touchscreen Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro device with dualband HSDPA, triband GSM and WiFi b/g.  In keeping with the pairing’s obsession with location-based services (LBS), GPS and navigation get top billing: it comes preloaded with maps and points of interest (POIs) – hotels, restaurants, stores, fuel stations and more – for North America, Eastern and Western Europe, together with turn-by-turn voice prompts and auto route-recalculation.

Microsoft My Phone backup service confirmed: beta starting soon

Microsoft have officially confirmed their My Phone backup and synchronization service, after it was spotted running ahead of time last week.  An official announcement regarding the service - plus an invite-only beta - is expected for Mobile World Congress, but what we do know now is that My Phone will offer synchronization of contacts, appointment and other date, together with photo sharing, for Windows Mobile handsets. Microsoft My Phone, aka SkyBox online backup, launches

It looks as though Microsoft have prematurely launched their mobile backup service, codenamed SkyBox, an announcement of which is expected at Mobile World Congress later this month.  Now named My Phone, though found at getskybox.com, the beta service promises 200MB of storage for contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, photos, videos, text messages, music and documents, via an on-phone sync app.   Read The Full Story

Toshiba release official TG01 GUI demo video

By now you've probably seen our live video demo of the Toshiba TG01 from yesterday's launch - now available in HD, no less - and now it's the turn of Toshiba themselves to promote what a few more months development will hopefully deliver.  The two minute official video shows the custom 3D GUI in action, complete with spinning vertical panes, gestures and that nifty "shake to dismiss" feature. Toshiba TG01 – why am I not excited?

Yesterday Toshiba took the wraps off their latest smartphone, the TG01, and with it catapulted themselves into the must-see category at Mobile World Congress next week.  We’ve got details, photos and high-definition video of the TG01 if you need to get fully up to speed, but basically it’s a 9.9mm thick WM6.1 smartphone with a 4.1-inch touchscreen, all the usual 3G and GPS connections, and a custom GUI as is so common now among users of Microsoft’s mobile platform.  There’s no denying it’s a slick, attractive handset – so how come I can’t get excited?

Acer sliding QWERTY smartphone leaks ahead of MWC

Toshiba TG01 Video Demos: GUI, gaming & video playback

Aside from the super-skinny profile of the TG01, Toshiba seems most proud of their new GUI, the smartphone’s gaming abilities, and its media playback charms. Toshiba only brought along two working TG01 prototypes to the London launch of the Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone today, but SlashGear managed to get some in-use shots of the handset in action.  The company is betting on consumers prioritising style, screen size and multimedia ability above all else, and while their claims to have created a “new category of product” can be dismissed as the usual marketing hyperbole, the Toshiba TG01 itself looks to be a very interesting device.

Toshiba TG01 announced: iPhone 3G and Touch HD killer?

Toshiba this morning announced their latest smartphone, the TG01, set to take on the HTC Touch HD and iPhone 3G.  The Toshiba TG01 is a 9.9mm thick Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone, with a 4.1-inch WVGA 800 x 480 384k pixel resistive touchscreen, 3G HSPA, WiFi, GPS and A-GPS.  It also features Toshiba’s own 3D user interface, and is the first device to use Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon QSD2850 chipset.

Samsung MWC details leak: 12MP feature-phone, Android device & 16GB Omnia

Earlier today, Samsung's upcoming 12-megapixel handset was first tipped for Mobile World Congress.  Now, trusted Dutch source GSM Helpdesk are confirming the rumors, as well as offering more information on the optical zoom model believed to be using Samsung's existing 8-megapixel sensor.  They also claim that Samsung will announce their first Android device in the next two weeks.  Plus, courtesy of Windows Mobile Italy, we have the first batch of images of the new 16GB Samsung Omnia.
