Microsoft have been spilling more details on Windows Mobile 6.5, including screenshots of a newly-refreshed GUI and a long list of over 25 companies signed up to produce content, software and generally lend a hand.  Among the fray will be an official Facebook application – complete with direct photo and video uploads – launched in April, together with games from EA Mobile and Gameloft.  Microsoft have also tweaked the contentious developer policies making issuing updates less expensive.

If you live in Canada and can’t get enough of smartphone, touchscreen goodness, you’re in luck. You will soon be able to get your hands on the Samsung Omnia on Bell. Yes, this does provide you with another option in a sea of options, but there can never be too much variety, right?

The rumored release date is between April 9th and the 12th at the moment. This release should actually go rather well, especially considering how popular the Omnia is in the U.S. on Verizon.

And just in case you’ve forgotten, the Samsung Omnia is a touchscreen smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. It features a 240 x 400 rez 3.2″ touchscreen, EV-DO Rev. 0/Rev. A, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 5-megapixel camera with features like auto focus and face stabilization and video playback. Pricing hasn’t been revealed as of yet, but if current Bell handsets are any indicator, the Omnia should go for about $200.

A Snapdragon-based Toshiba smartphone has cleared the FCC, but it’s not the TG01 we’re already familiar with.  In fact, while Toshiba and the FCC have seemingly used the TG01 for their photoset, the user manual for the device – which is called the Toshiba TM5-E01, though that’s presumed not to be the final product name – suggests it’s considerably thicker and most likely a clamshell handset.

It was at Intel’s booth rather than Samsung’s at Mobile World Congress where we got our hands on the Samsung SWD-M100 Mobile Internet Device, and while the unit they had to play with was mysteriously non-functional, the hardware is certainly promising.  Hidden behind a 4.3-inch touchscreen there’s a full slide-down QWERTY keyboard, together with WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and – its crowning glory – WiMAX.
