HTC Touch HD SlashGear Review: Part 1

, Nov 5th 2008 Discuss [22]

Rarely do we receive so many questions, so many comments and demands over an upcoming review.  In the few days since our HTC Touch HD unboxing and hands-on video demo, the messages have been flooding in.  Today, we’ll try to answer those questions – and, of course, the biggest question of them all: have HTC managed the unthinkable and tugged the must-have crown from the head of the iPhone 3G?  In the first half of our two-part review, we’ll be looking at the touchscreen, OS, GUI and keyboard entry, as well as the Touch HD’s internet abilities and more.

Samsung T*Omnia: WVGA, DMB-TV & everything i900, but it’s not for us

, Nov 3rd 2008 Discuss [2]

It wasn't enough for Samsung to upset US buyers by not making a compatible 3G HSDPA version of the Omnia i900 smartphone for them; now they're looking to drive Europe to horrible tears by updating it to this, the Samsung T*Omnia.  Out goes the old 3.22-inch 240 x 400 touchscreen, to be replaced with a glorious 3.3-inch 480 x 800 panel.  Then, to make sure every carrier other than those in Korea ignore it, Samsung dropped in a DMB-TV tuner. AT&T Samsung Epix SGH-i907 reviewed: Good, but too much trialware

, Oct 28th 2008 Discuss [4]

Samsung's Epix SGH-i907 has a lot riding on it.  Its AT&T predecessor, the BlackJack II, was a highly regarded Windows Mobile smartphone, and the competition has only got better since then.  On paper, the Epix looks pretty good: 3G HSPA, WiFi b/g, aGPS and a 2-megapixel camera; PocketNow have been testing it out to see whether it lives up to its listings. Sprint HTC Touch Pro announced: EV-DO Rev.A, QWERTY & more

, Oct 24th 2008 Discuss [1]

Sprint have announced availability of the HTC Touch Pro, the QWERTY keyboard-blessed version of the HTC Touch Diamond.  With a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, EV-DO Rev.A, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, the Touch Pro is intended for heavy messagers.  The five-row keyboard - which we found to be great for typing at CTIA - adds a little thickness, but at 4.17 x 2.05 x 0.7 inches the Touch Pro is still a pocketable phone. Velocity Mobile 103 VGA Smartphone SlashGear Review

, Oct 19th 2008 Discuss [1]

With the current economic climate and the hotly contested smartphone war, it’s either a great time or a ridiculous time to be launching a new cellphone.  Velocity Mobile as a company aren’t that green – in fact Phone Magazine played with their handsets earlier this year - but they’ve only just got around to commercially launching their first device, the 103.  With a VGA touchscreen, 3G HSUPA, WiFi, GPS and, as is the fashion these days, a custom GUI sitting on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, we’ve been putting the 103 through its paces over the past few weeks.

HTC Touch HD photo gallery, hands-on Video and pre-order price

, Sep 18th 2008 Discuss [1]

There’s a torrent of HTC Touch HD news out today, including hands-on photos and feedback, a video demo and even pre-order pricing.  The latter comes from Amazon Germany, who are asking €619 ($893) for the handset though with no estimated shipping date; as for the first, French site geekinc.fr have apparently scored a re-release handset and have offered up photos and some first-impressions.  The good?  It’s about the size of an iPhone 3G, with an 800 x 480 that’s gorgeous and a steamroller of a CPU.

, Sep 15th 2008 Discuss [1]

Having announced it last week at CTIA Wireless, and seen it hands-on later that day, all that’s left is to unbox and properly review Sprint’s CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond.  The Touch Diamond has a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, EV-DO Rev.A, WiFi b/g and GPS, and includes HTC’s TouchFLO 3D GUI for hiding dull old Windows Mobile 6.1

, Sep 15th 2008 Discuss [1]

HTC have put up the product page for the Touch HD smartphone, which we first caught sight of last week.  Although no press release has been issued at time of writing, what we have confirmed makes for a highly tempting handset.  A 3.8-inch WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen, HSDPA (using the Europe/Asia 900/2100MHz bands), WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS and A-GPS round out the device, together with HTC’s TouchFLO 3D GUI.
