Archos unveils the 80 Cesium Windows 8.1 budget tablet

Ever since Microsoft lowered the entry barrier for putting Windows on small form devices, there has been quite a rush of budget-friendly Windows tablets in the market. Archos, long known for that category especially with Android, is taking another stab at that same market with the Archos 80 Cesium, an Intel-powered Windows 8.1 tablet that tries to deliver your choice of finger-friendliness or productivity, either in your pocket, bag, or desk.

These slates will join the growing roster of budget-centric Windows devices, of which some big-name companies like HP have introduced their own offerings.

Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro Review

Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro Review

Finally, a truly great Windows laptop. Lenovo's YOGA 3 Pro is thin, yet robust. It's powerful enough to handle tasks like video processing and light gaming, yet its battery life is optimized to such a degree that I'm able to use it like I would my main work notebook. The Lenogo YOGA 3 Pro transforms between a notebook, a touch display, and a tablet, but its abilities aren't just in place to be retrofitted to Windows 8's touchscreen intentions. The Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro isn't perfect, but it's very, very close.

Windows Schannel bug as bad as Heartbleed, patch available

Windows Schannel bug as bad as Heartbleed, patch available

The tech world as a whole is still reeling from the OpenSSL vulnerability that was so bad that it was baptized with its own name. Now Microsoft might have an equally terrible, or perhaps even worse, issue in its hands. A bug in its Schannel (short for "Secure channel") security package could, in theory, allow any hacker to remotely run a program just by sending a specially crafted network packet to a Windows server. To add insult to injury, this security exploit exists in a wide range of Windows version dating back 2003.

ASUS EeeBook X205 Windows laptop now available

Back in September we got our first look at ASUS's sleek budget-friendly EeeBook X205, a thin laptop running Windows 8.1 and offering users a so-called smartphone experience. Though we got all the details on the machine a couple months ago, ASUS was quiet on when it would launch the notebook, something that is no longer of any concern: the laptop is now available, and is priced at $199 USD. The device is poised to take on HP's recent similar offering, the equally budget-friendly Stream 11 notebook.

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro pit against Macbook Air in new Microsoft ad

Lenovo's Yoga 3 Pro notebook is thin, it's transformable, and it would appear to be Microsoft's newest favored son as it does battle with the MacBook Air in Microsoft's newest TV ad spot. This device is thinner than the MacBook Air. It's able to bend backwards far enough to turn itself into a tablet. It's got a touchscreen. It's also very similar looking to the MacBook Air from afar - but they really couldn't be more difference, when it comes down to it.

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 with Windows 13″ model expands lineup

Earlier this month we went hands-on with Lenovo's new Yoga Tablet 2 with Windows (and Android), which was revealed in both 8-inch and 10-inch iterations. The maker has expanded upon this, introducing another slate into the lineup: the Yoga Tablet 2 with Windows 13-inch model (not to be confused with the Yoga 2 13). As you'd expect, the big change with the newest model is its larger Quad HD display, which complements the already excellent features otherwise present in the product lineup.
