Microsoft is just full of announcements today, it seems. After announcing the street date for Windows Mobile 6.5, they've gone ahead and informed the world that a technical preview of their Windows 7 Embedded version has gone out for technical preview. MSI have confirmed previous leaks that they are developing a convertible touchscreen netbook that will run Windows 7 on Intel’s upcoming Pine Trail chipset.  The MSI Wind U150 will take on ASUS’ Eee PC T91; however there’s some confusion as to when it might arrive.  MSI have tipped Pine Trail’s official debut as taking place at CES 2010, while Intel maintain that the new Atom processors are on course for a late-2009 release.

With the release of Windows 7 coming up pretty quickly here, we're just like everyone else in hoping that while the Operating System is getting upgraded, the machines running them don't get left in the dust. Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case, at least not with MSI, as they move forward and confirm the introduction of the Mobile Core i7. It's not groundbreaking or anything (is there much that is, anymore?), but at least we get something new to look forward in the architecture point of view.

Hot on the heels of word that Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 NVIDIA Ion netbook will be delayed until the launch of Windows 7 in late October, comes the news from Samsung that they’re planning the same tactics for their own Ion ultraportable, the N510.  The 11.6-inch notebook – which last we heard was set to arrive in the US come September – pairs Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor with 1GB of RAM and the GeForce 9400M GPU.

It takes something special to get us excited about the netbook segment these days, and Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 with its added injection of NVIDIA Ion GPU prowess was set to be enough to do just that.  However, if laptop-loving new Gizmodo acquisition Joanna Stern is correct, we won’t be seeing the Ion version of the S12 until sometime after Windows 7 launches.
