It seems pretty clear-cut that Microsoft are going to get plenty of stick for their latest software vulnerability - and their fix for it - after the company's Security Response Center admitted that SMBv2 (Server Message Block version 2) could leave a system vulnerable to remote takeover.  Microsoft's fix for Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7?  Turn it off.

Microsoft ClippyThis is a follow up note to some folks who work in Redmond (it’s OK for the rest of you to read it if you want to).

Hi guys. How are you doing these days? There’s no doubt that you must be frustrated. Really frustrated. After all, you were in digital music long before Apple, had cool phones that played music long before Apple and in general had a pretty compelling story for the digital consumer that was very complete, but no one paid a whole lot of attention. There were WMA players on the market long before iPod. In fact, Microsoft might have been dominant in digital music if it weren’t for that pesky iPod and iTunes combo. You’ve taken some hard hits, I remember when Apple introduced a flash memory music player, removed features and had customers waiting 2-4 weeks to get one. Gladly waiting I might add and ignoring all those other devices your partners brought to market. Yep, it’s been a tough few years.

We're sure that Toshiba could announce some more things, but this is getting ridiculous. This time around, we've got a laptop, and one that's sure to attract some onlookers, if for anything else because it's Ducati-branded. Getting a name-brand, on top of the manufacturer's name brand, isn't a new practice, especially for company's hoping they can get an extra buck or two from it. Although, it is nice to see an actual Ducati right next to the laptop. It definitely gives the little piece of tech a more attractive appeal.

Nokia may have unveiled the Booklet 3G over a week ago, but they’ve been keeping some pretty essential details from us too.  Not least is when exactly we’ll be able to buy it, where, and for how much.  As you might expect, they saved much of that information for the opening keynote here at Nokia World.

Microsoft is just full of announcements today, it seems. After announcing the street date for Windows Mobile 6.5, they've gone ahead and informed the world that a technical preview of their Windows 7 Embedded version has gone out for technical preview. And while this one may not be as user-friendly as the former announcement, at least not to the end-user, it's surprising just how embedded this really is.
