Google smartwatch tipped by June with Google Now focus

Google smartwatch tipped by June with Google Now focus

Google is targeting a March release for its own smartwatch, a Bluetooth LE wearable designed to work alongside an Android smartphone, though insiders on the project are reportedly pessimistic that the current timescale is realistic. Google has already pared back on the complexity of the design it's said, switching from a metal strap to a plastic one, but even so there's a strong possibility that the ship date could slip to June 2014 or see Google launch the gadget with even fewer features than initially intended.

Google acquires WIMM Labs for smartwatch finesse

Google acquires WIMM Labs for smartwatch finesse

If you've not heard a lot of chatter out of WIMM Labs over the past few months, there may be a very big reason why: it's been reported today that Google acquired the company as early as a year ago. While it's not immediately apparent why this news has broken just now, GigaOM suggests that staff members at WIMM have just now updated their profiles on LinkedIn to make the change to Google clear. Woodside Capital Partners have also listed a page which suggests they facilitated the acquisition in full.

WIMM Android smartwatch re-hashed with old concepts

WIMM Android smartwatch re-hashed with old concepts

The folks responsible for the WIMM Android-based device are fully conscious of the fact that they're not the only smart watch manufacturer on the block, so this week they're showing the future - at least that's what it looks like at first. The future in this case is a set of conceptual works surrounding their 1 x 1 miniature computer that show that the WIMM is not just the smart watch people know it as in its first iteration, it's part of a bigger community of possibilities. What's not immediately clear is the fact that these concepts aren't new at all, they've existed as long as the WIMM has itself.

WIMM One Developer Kit Review

WIMM One Developer Kit Review

The WIMM One has a worthy ambition: shifting information from your smartphone screen to your wrist, and allowing you to get on with life rather than pulling your phone from your pocket every thirty seconds. To do that, WIMM's smart watch harnesses Android, a high-tech display and more sensors than you'd expect from the standard Rolex or Omega. The company also has its eye on smart watch world domination, with enthusiastic plans for third-party developers and hardware manufacturers. The WIMM One Developer Kit is the first step in that journey; check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.
