, Aug 30th 2010 Discuss [0]

Intel has announced a $1.4bn cash deal to buy Infineon's Wireless Solutions (WLS) business, maintaining the 3G, WiFi, WiMAX and LTE company as a separate venture but also dipping liberally into their expertise for upcoming Intel products and strategy.  This relatively hands-off approach to running Infineon is likely to placate the company's existing customers - which includes Apple, who source their WiFi+3G chipset for the iPad from the firm - while will also see them continuing to supply ARM-based chipsets together with Intel silicon. Clear iSpot Review

, Aug 13th 2010 Discuss [1]

Wireless hotspots are relatively commonplace these days, billed as straightforward ways to get all your WiFi devices online without paying a cellular modem subscription for each. The Clear iSpot, then, is an odd fish: while it’s capable of supporting up to eight WiFi clients simultaneously, they’re all meant to be Apple mobile devices like the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Have one of those and you can be enjoying 4G speeds for a bargain monthly fee; anything else and – officially – you’re out of luck. Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Verizon’s 4G Roadmap Leaks, Seems to be Right on Schedule

Right now, Sprint's got 4G down. Their WiMAX-backed next-generation wireless technology is popping up in cities all over the country, and they've got their first 4G-enabled device out there, in the hands of customers. But, that's obviously not stopping the largest wireless carrier in this neck of the woods from moving right along with their own next-gen connection options. Verizon, though, will be using Long Term Evolution, and not WiMAX, and according to a newly leaked document detailing the future of the roll-out, it looks like Verizon is right on schedule and moving along quite nicely.
