HTC EVO 4G shortages undermine Sprint’s WiMAX advantage admits Hesse

Sprint's patchy stock of the HTC EVO 4G has limited the impact of their early entrance into the 4G market, according to CEO Dan Hesse, telling the WSJ that "we thought we would have more of a head start than we'll end up having."  HTC says the delay in handsets is down to shortages in stocks of components like touchscreens, and that they're looking to new suppliers to boost production capacity; according to HTC spokesman Keith Nowak, the company is even monitoring flights to the US to get last-minute shipping space for the EVO 4G - and the Verizon Droid Incredible, similarly in short supply - as it rolls fresh off the production line and thus speed up availability. CLEAR Spot 4G and 4G+ mobile hotspots go on sale

Clearwire's new CLEAR 4G and 3G/4G mobile hotspots have gone up for sale, having made their preorder debut last month.  The CLEAR Spot 4G and Spot 4G+ both share their WiMAX connection with various WiFi clients - up to eight with the Spot 4G, and up to five with the Spot 4G+ - and are in CLEAR stores today. Intel axe WiMAX Program Office (and surprise the Taiwanese government)

Intel has apparently surprised its WiMAX partners by deciding to axe its WiMAX Program Office, prompting questions among the industry as to its commitment to technologies related to the 4G network standard.  According to DigiTimes, Intel failed to notify the Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs - which it has a cooperation agreement and memorandum of understanding (MOU) with - in advance, a decision which has led to speculation that the government may decide to cooperate with ARM, AMD and others in future. Clear fit WiMAX to Intel Core notebooks at Best Buy

Clearwire has announced that it plans to slot WiMAX modems into all the Intel Core based notebooks at Best Buy by the holidays, in an attempt to drum up business for their 4G network.  It's unclear what affect the 4G modems will have on the price - systems tipped to be included in the promotion are the Dell Inspiron 14, Dell Inspiron 15, Dell Mini 10, and Toshiba Satellite M645, among others - but if buyers opt for a two-year CLEAR agreement they'll get a $100 rebate. CLEAR 4G and 4G+ WiFi hotspots outed with USB 3G/4G modem

US WiMAX provider Clearwire has outed its latest 4G modems and personal wireless hotspots, promising broadband-like speeds in areas with suitable 4G service.  The new CLEAR 4G and CLEAR 4G+ personal WiFi hotspots (the latter being a rebadge of the Sprint Overdrive) each pull in a WiMAX signal and share it with up to eight nearby devices (the 4G+ also works with 3G connections).  Meanwhile there's a new dual-mode 3G/4G USB modem for Mac and Windows users. Sprint Samsung Galaxy S Pro 4G phone outed

We pointed you to the first shot of the Samsung Galaxy S Pro over at our sibling site Android Community earlier on, in our Daily Slash round-up, but now there are a few more shots of the smartphone to be had.  The Galaxy S Pro - which, judging by the branding, is headed to Sprint's 4G network - has a full, slide-out QWERTY keyboard along with a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, Android 2.1 and TouchWiz 3.0. Sprint admit to accidentally tripling HTC EVO 4G sales figures

Looks like someone at Sprint needs to re-oil their abacus, as the carrier has admitted to "accidentally" over-estimating their launch day sales figures for the HTC EVO 4G.  Sprint originally claimed to have sold "three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined"; now, they're saying EVO 4G sales were "in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined."
