Nintendo Tells Developer High Voltage to Not Use WiiSpeak in Upcoming Game

One aspect of playing games online, is the ability to talk to people while you're doing it. Using microphones, both wired and wireless, allows players all over the world to talk to complete strangers, catch up with old friends, or just make small talk with their best friend, all while playing their favorite games. But, while headphone/microphone combinations may still be the item of choice for communication online for most gamers, Nintendo (and more recently, Microosft) wanted people to be able to talk without the headset, so more people could communicate all at once. Nintendo: 65.3m Wiimotes in the US, just in case you were curious

We never had Nintendo down as stat-addicted number fanciers, but the company's latest press release is all about how many Wii gamers could motion at their consoles at the same time.  According to Nintendo's figures, more than 65.3m Wii Remotes have found their way into the wilds of the US market, with an average of 46,000 sold daily.  Since it's hard to visualize that many Wiimotes, Nintendo helpfully tells us "that's enough for every man, woman and child living in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, San Jose, Detroit and San Francisco, and enough still remains for every resident of Florida, Ohio, Virginia and North Dakota." Netflix for Wii disc-free update now available

Netflix's update for the Nintendo Wii delivering disc-free streaming has gone live, with US Wii owners able to download the new update from the Wii Shop Channel.  Until now, Netflix subscribers wanting to view streamed TV and movie content via their consoles had to slot in the Netflix disc; this update adds a new menu option to the Wii instead. At first tipped, and then later confirmed by Nintendo, the Wii Remote Plus has been an accessory that many Wii owners have been waiting patiently for. Or perhaps not so patiently. Either way, the new accessory has been given a launch date, and it's been unveiled that the new controller will also be bundled with an old classic for the Wii. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's any indication as to when the new controller, or even the bundle, will be released internationally, which looks to be a growing trend for Nintendo. Nintendo Wii in Red Heading to Japan to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Nintendo's Super Mario celebrated his 25th anniversary this year, and it wouldn't be a party without plenty of new toys to play with. Nintendo feels the same way, as the company has been on a roll ever since the official annivesary date, showing off new Super Mario-themed items. Disc-free Netflix for PS3 due this month

Sony's update for accessing Netflix on the PS3 without having to slot in a disc first is due to arrive before the end of October, according to social media manager Jeff Rubenstein, who confirmed the timescale in the comments on the official PlayStation Blog.  That should get them just inside their originally promised window of three months from the end of July 2010.
