Nintendo announced at the Game Developer Conference that the Wii will now be able to utilize SDHC cards up to 32GB for users to store their WiiWare, Virtual Console video games, and Channels directly on the cards. This feature will be included in latest update through the update menu.

Xbox 360 owners will have a chance to gesticulate just as wildly at their console as Wii gamers as of this Fall, after Gametrak finally launch their Freedom motion-controller.  First spotted back in September last year, the latest redesign of the Gametrak Freedom gives it 360-coloring and more streamlined controls; unlike other Wiimote-clones we’ve seen, it uses ultrasonic 3D positioning for increased accuracy.

Nintendo’s Wii console topped the sales charts for video game consoles in February where hardware sales increased by 11% to $532.7 million and software was up by 9% to $733.5 million.  753,000 Wii consoles were sold as the supply now seems to be fitting the demand.  XBox 360 and Plastation 3 and 2 followed in second and third place respectively.  The top selling game was not a Wii title however; Street Fighter IV sold the most copies on XBox 360 and PS3 combined.  Wii Fit came in at number two.

A recent Netflix survey has suggested the possibility of the company’s streaming DVD rental appearing on the Nintendo Wii.  According to the survey, the system would require a “Netflix Instant Streaming Disc” – at a one-off cost of $9.99 – which would be loaded into the console whenever titles from the user’s Netflix subscription were to be streamed.

It seems like as far back as I can remember, there have never been enough Wiis. But now, Nintendo has finally caught up with the demand–even though they didn’t do much to catch up in the first place–and the dreaded Wii shortage is no more.

nintendo wiimote nunchuckSo it feels like NVIDIA just got done announcing that their PhysX tech was going to be making an appearance on the PlayStation 3, but now there’s even more news to report. In fact, the PhysX SDK will actually be available for the Wii as well.

This is interesting, to say the least. Sure, the PS3 is considerably more powerful than the Wii, but Wii developers are crafty folks. Plus, the Wiimote has a lot of functionality built in, which leaves the door open for numerous opportunities when this latest SDK is added to the mix.

In the end we’ll just have to see where this goes and what sort of cool effects will come of it. The PhysX SDK includes an API and physics engine which is engineered to provide developers with greater control over interactions with the game environment and makes it possible to create scalable physics as you go. This is a perfect match for the Wii, and while the PS3 packs serious power, nothing comes close to the physics of the Wiimote. This might just take it to the next level.

As bizarre and vaguely unsettling gaming peripherals go, the Hudson Karaoke JOYSOUND Wii microphone certainly packs a punch.  Intended for karaoke-loving Japanese gamers whose neighbors aren’t quite so keen on singing, the USB microphone has a chin-enveloping rubber cup to reduce noise leak.

I don’t particularly despise Wii gaming console. Deep down, the new Nintendo is probably the most innovative and family-friendly entertainment on-the-budget’s package ever built. There’s no hulking graphic, “official support” of a legacy DVD playback or even output video beyond 480P, and hence the low price. In a nutshell, this fun little gaming console is not built to accommodate HD content. But with the success of Microsoft New Xbox Experience and PS3’s cornering the online video content, the leader in gaming console market could branch out to include movie streaming this year.

After reports yesterday that Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus accessory was facing delays, the company has struck back with a somewhat sneaky denial.  According to the latest rumors, technical difficulties had pushed the MotionPlus launch back from its originally expected June; however according to Nintendo, it’s not been delayed because they haven’t actually officially confirmed it.
