Well, not exactly Wii-like. If a leaked image is to be believed, Microsoft has a new motion controlling system in the works to compete against what the Nintendo Wii is offering. However, this isn’t set up like the Wii in that you can wave around a remote and the sensor will pick up the motion. Rather, the Xbox system simply detects your body’s movements and interprets them on the screen.

sony ps3 motion sensing controller mockupHot on the heels of a screen-sliding PSP refresh, comes word that Sony are planning a Wiimote-style motion-sensing controller for the PS3.  Tipped for announcement at E3 next month, the controller is expected to use LEDs and a webcam to track movement, with reportedly greater accuracy than Nintendo’s version.

While there’s unsurprisingly no word from Sony themselves regarding the new controller, the rumor-mill maintains that the company is contacting “key third-party publishers” and pushing for support in their upcoming titles.  That would give the company the catalog of compatible games needed to properly launch the new peripheral.

Pleo’s fate may be decided by a bankruptcy sale, but the robot dinosaurs already out in the wild are too busy being hacked to worry about IP.  Modder Andrey has developed a system which allows him to remotely-control his Pleo via a Wii Nunchuck, with the head, tail and basic movements all mapped to the Nintendo controller’s buttons and motion-sensors.

It must be a week for Wiimote hacks, as there are two interesting implementations of Nintendo’s wireless motion-sensitive controller on offer today.  First up comes a hack using DarwiinRemote, that allows you to play World of Warcraft using the Wiimote; then, there’s a self-balancing robot made of LEGO NXT, that can be remotely controlled with it.

nintendowiimotionplus 3lg 377x480Don’t you just love when things get official? Nintendo has finally set a release date for their new MotionPlus Wiimote accessories and wouldn’t you know that it’s right around the corner.

You will be able to get your hands on the MotionPlus Wiimote starting on June 8th in the U.S. for $19.99. The whole goal here is to make movements more precise in-game and to allow you more functionality within the 3D world of the games like rotation.

The game that’s built for this attachment is called Wii Sports Resort, but that won’t be released until July 16th. However, you can purchase both at that time for $49.99. Not too bad. However, we might just have to pick this gadget up before then to give it a try.

Well, it looks like the MotionPlus controllers for the Nintendo Wii are finally going to hit the U.S. market, as they received at July release date. This comes after the remotes took longer to get official than had been anticipated.

So just about everyone knows that the Wiimote for the Nintendo Wii can be a little bit dangerous, especially if the wrist strap snaps and it goes sailing into your friend’s noggin, or even worse, your TV! But now with the Riiflex Wiimote weights on the market, there’s even more to worry about.

We first heard about WiiSpray last year, but this super cool Wiimote mod is 100% real and looks to offer superb functionality. Is it practical? Not really. But that doesn’t stop it from being awesome and something that we’d love to have.

Hacking together remote control weaponry seems to be a common pastime, and incorporating a nice, innocent Wiimote an ideal way to aim it.  Jay decided his office was missing an airsoft robot with IP webcam and internet-based remote control, so put together the pretty intimidating setup you see here.
