Wii U Japan sales top 300,000 during launch weekend

While players in North America and Europe have been enjoying their Wii Us for a little while now, the newest Nintendo console only launched in Japan this past weekend. We're now hearing the first numbers from the Wii U's Japan launch, with statistics from Media-Create putting the Wii U's launch weekend sales at 307,471. That certainly isn't bad, with Nintendo selling 400,000 Wii Us during the console's North American launch week (which just so happened to be the week leading up to Black Friday). Read The Full Story

Nintendo blames German law for Wii U content restrictions in Europe

If you're a Nintendo Wii U owner in Europe and have wondered what the deal is with the content restrictions on the Nintendo Wii U eShop, Nintendo is offering up some new details. If you're unfamiliar with what's going on, Nintendo confirmed last week that Nintendo of Europe blocks access to 18+ content at certain times of the day. Welcome to Wednesday evening everyone. Today we saw images of what may be the rear housing of the iPhone 5S - yes, already. There aren't too many differences between it and the rear housing for the iPhone 5, but there are enough to make the images noteworthy. The high-end HTC M7 is rumored for a Q1 2013 release, and it appears that HTC wants it to get on shelves before Samsung launches the Galaxy S IV, while Samsung's iPhone 5-bashing Galaxy S III commercial was named that most viral tech ad of 2012. Google Maps hitting Nintendo Wii U with augmented reality exploration

Though the Nintendo Wii U is indeed a stationary sort of gaming machine, that's not stopping the folks at Google Maps from making an app for the platform - with augmented reality, no less! This app allows you to not just find your way around your city before you head out of your house, it allows you to check out Street View with a fully interactive look-around mode from your Wii U GamePad. This means you can bring up the Street View images from downtown Rome and use your Gamepad screen like a window, moving it around yourself looking up, down, left, right, all around and see what the original Street View camera saw - like magic! Nintendo’s president apologizes for Wii U update nightmare

Nintendo's president has apologized for the poor out-of-box experience new Wii U owners experienced, saying that in his opinion a console should deliver the goods without demanding an update first. "Personally I think that users should be able to use all the functions of a console video game machine as soon as they open the box" Satoru Iwata admitted to IGN. "So I feel very sorry for the fact that purchasers of Wii U have to experience a network update which takes such a long time, and that there are the services which were not available at the hardware’s launch." Wii U hits UK early

Nintendo's Wii U has begun showing up for pre-order customers in the UK, a day ahead of the console's official release on November 30. Retailer Amazon UK notified some buyers of the new motion-gaming system on Wednesday this week that their Wii U had been dispatched for a November 29 delivery, and sure enough the first boxes hit doorsteps from this morning. Nintendo TVii launching December 8 in Japan, US and Europe in 2013 [update]

Nintendo has announced that TVii, the Wii U's multimedia TV guide, will launch alongside the console's Japan launch on December 8, while US and European users will have to until 2013 in order to get TVii functionality. TVii pulls data from Rovi’s G-Guide and lets gamers scroll through listings using the GamePad. UPDATE: It's confirmed that Europe will see the 2013 delay, but a solid release date for the US is actually still unknown. The last we heard, TVii was delayed into December, so it's possible we may see it on the 8th along with Japan, but no official word from Nintendo on that yet. Read The Full Story

Wii U hits 400,000 US sales in first week

The Wii U seems to be off to a pretty good start in the US. As of yesterday, the console had been available for one full week, and today Nintendo told CNET that it managed to sell 400,000 units in that time. That's exactly what the man has done here at the launch of the next-generation gaming console, taking the "greatest hits" of the device that's sold out across the planet and making it into a one-shot album of nine tracks. THQ clears up Wii U “horrible, slow CPU” claim

A couple days ago, 4A Games developer Oles Shishkovtsov had some fighting words for Nintendo's new Wii U gaming console. He simply said that the new console has a "horrible, slow CPU." He was pretty straightforward in his comment obviously, but THQ's Huw Beynon -- who works full time as a representative of 4A Games -- says that Shishkovtsov's comment didn't tell the full story necessarily. YouTube for Wii U released
