Can we all just stop the nonsense, please? I’ve been sitting here for weeks now, waiting to hear from Nintendo that it’s ready to make major changes with the Wii U. And time and again, I’m left with the company scoffing at such a suggestion. The Wii U will be just fine, Nintendo says. And it’s about time we all believe it.
Well, Nintendo, we don’t believe it.
The Xbox 360 is continuing its dominance as the best-selling console in the US. Microsoft has announced that they sold 302,000 consoles in February, making it the 26th straight month that the Xbox 360 has been on top in the US. Meanwhile, though, Nintendo Wii U sales continue to slump, with only 64,000 consoles sold during the month of February.

I’m worried about Nintendo. Yes, I know that I’ve told you here on SlashGear that I’m not the biggest fan of the Wii (or Wii U, for that matter) and I’m suspect of the value of Nintendo’s games library, but the company is still important to me.
Capcom hopes to increase the popularity of its Monster Hunter game series in the U.S. The franchise has been and still is one of the most popular in Japan. Throughout the world, the Monster Hunter game series has sold over 22 million copies, but the majority of the sales occurred in Japan. There have been 9 official games released for the series, and a 10th one currently still in development. There have also been 4 spin-offs, 3 being released onto various portable devices, and 1 being released for both the PC and Xbox 360.

Ubisoft made a teaser for its "world premiere trailer" for the next game in the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The world premiere was supposed to take place on Monday, but unfortunately for Ubisoft, the trailer was leaked prematurely. The trailer was leaked through GameRadar's YouTube channel, and taken down soon afterwards, but to Ubisoft's horror, many more copies of the videos took its place.

The latest numbers are in from NPD Group for January of 2013 looking at the United States video game industry. The caveat with the numbers for January is that the month corresponded with the National Retail Federation leap week. I had never heard of that before, but basically it means the National Retail Federation adds an additional week to the month of January 2013 as far as sales numbers are concerned while January 2012 only had four weeks.

The folks at Nintendo have revealed a brand new iteration of their Wii U gaming console this week complete with a brand new Wii U Pro Controller right in the box. This release will also include the game ZombiU by Ubisoft and will include a lovely book of ZombiU artwork and commentary from the developers who created it. This release will be popping in with a 32GB hard drive and a charging cradle for the GamePad controller as well.

Yesterday, we heard that Nintendo was revising its Wii U sales forecast, bringing the number of consoles it plans to sell in the year ending in March 2013 down to four million. Previously, Nintendo has expected to sell 5.5 million consoles, so this is suggesting to some that Nintendo is struggling on the Wii U sales front. Nintendo has cut its predictions for Wii U sales, with dwindling interest in the tablet-equipped console forcing a 27-percent cut in expectations, though hopes are still high for a profitable year. The Japanese firm now expects to shift four million Wii U units in the twelve months ending March 2013, being up to the 3.06m point by the end of December, though net income for the nine months leading up to the end of December hit 14.5bn yen ($159m) versus a loss of over 48bn yen ($528m) in the same period a year ago.
