Nintendo and Boingo forged a partnership that will offer Nintendo 3DS users free Wi-Fi access at 42 airports in North America where Boingo provides wireless hotspots. Unlike the yet to be released PS Vita, the Nintendo 3DS does not offer a cellular version and has relied on Wi-Fi connections for surfing the web, downloading games and videos, and to access the Nintendo Zone for promotional offers, coupons, and game previews.

ip.access AFC portable femtocell offloads 3G/4G to WiFi
An iPhone-sized portable femtocell could make creating a private bubble of cellphone coverage straightforward in homes, offices, hotel rooms and public spaces, offloading smartphones and other mobile devices onto WiFi. The ip.access Advanced Femtocell Concept (AFC) works as existing products, like the AT&T 3G Microcell and Vodafone SureSignal, but can hook up to the internet via either a wired ethernet connection or WiFi.

Sky testing huge cable & WiFi broadband roll-out
Sky has trialled its own cable installations, the company has confirmed, experimenting with the possibility of bypassing BT in the UK and operating its own broadband network over which it would have full control. Another possibility - though only rumored at this stage - is using a huge expansion of The Cloud, a UK WiFi hotspot service, Electricpig reports, to bring high-speed communal wireless internet access directly to subscribers' homes.

BBC WiFi Dalek demos Internet of Things TV potential
The BBC has developed a WiFi-enabled toy Dalek that can mimic the on-screen actions of the Doctor Who arch-villain, though fans hoping for a living room invasion will be disappointed. The "synchronised Dalek" project, the BBC's R&D team reveals, is a proof-of-concept intended to demonstrate the Universal Control system, a way of getting internet-connected devices to perform specific functions in time with TV shows on-screen.

Twine offers easy entry to “internet of things”
Google isn't the only company working on the "internet of things," with a Kickstarter project called Twine looking to release compact WiFi-enabled sensors that can get web-dumb devices online. A 2.5-inch square block packing WiFi along with temperature and vibration sensors, Twine uses a simple web app called Spool to piece together routines like sending out an SMS when a certain temperature is passed, or tweeting when your dryer has finished spinning.

Details of an Acer tablet running NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor with a Full HD resolution display have emerged, hot on the heels of the apparent confirmation of the mid-range Iconia Tab A501/A511. The Acer Iconia Tab A700/A701 was spotted in amongst profile documentation on the company’s support site, complete with a pixel-dense 1920 x 1200 WUXGA display and NVIDIA’s new quadcore chipset.
Jobs schemed Apple WiFi carrier plot for original iPhone
Steve Jobs explored establishing Apple as a WiFi-based carrier rival, wireless expert John Stanton has confirmed, aiming “to replace carriers” in the run-up to the launch of the original iPhone in 2007. Stanton – an operator chief turned venture capitalist – revealed his discussions with Jobs back in the years between 2005 and 2007 during a speech this week at the Law Seminars International event in Seattle, ComputerWorld reports, having “spent a lot of time talking about whether synthetically you could create a carrier using Wi-Fi spectrum.”
Google offers way for wireless network users to opt out of Google Location Server inclusion
Google has announced a new plan that will help people that have wireless networks at home or in their offices opt out of being included in the Google Location Server. The GLS is one of the ways that Google helps provide location services to mobile users. When your network is in the GLS listings it can be used to find where a person is when they use location services on a mobile device.

ASUS: No 3G Transformer Prime plans at launch
ASUS has no initial plans for a 3G version of the new Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the company has confirmed to SlashGear, with the Tegra 3 tablet being WiFi-only when it launches next month. The decision follows similar reticence around 3G on the original Transformer, though that at least was initially announced with both WiFi-only and 3G models in the pipeline; however the 3G version followed several months behind the commercial release.
