Intel pump $20m into Korean WiBro after KT tweak its WiMAX compatibility

Rumors of Intel's waning interest in WiMAX look to have been unfounded, with the news that not only has the silicon company just invested $20m into Korea Telecom's WiBro service, but it's convinced the carrier to shift the WiMAX-based system onto the 10MHz channel.  That means compatibility with other WiMAX devices, opening up the potential for US WiMAX users to roam their devices onto the high-speed South Korean network. KT Identity Tab Android WiBro tablet outed; Samsung does a double-take

Korean carrier KT has outed their own 7-inch tablet, the KT Identity Tab, packing a 1GHz processor, 8GB of internal storage, DMB TV tuner and HDMI connectivity.  Bundled with WiBro data service, the Identity Tab also has WiFi and Bluetooth, together with a 3-megapixel camera on the back. iPad WiBro planned for South Korea?

Apple's international launch plans for the iPad continue to chug along, with the first batch of countries - outside of the US - getting their official launch this Friday, but according to a rumor out of South Korea the most interesting iPad variant may still be at the negotiation stage.  According to Telecoms Korea, Apple are in talks with carrier KT Telecom regarding a WiBro iPad, a third version of the touchscreen tablet. The mintpad super-compact Internet Tablet may not have managed its US launch quite yet, but the Korean team behind it are already planning the follow-up model.  According to the latest interview with mintpass' CFO, options currently on the table for the mintpad 2.0 are integrated GPS and WiBro, as well as a touchscreen display anything up to 7-inches in size, and a metal housing. Samsung have announced a new netbook, the Samsung N310, a 10.1-inch budget ultraportable with unspecified Intel Atom processor, 160GB hard-drive and optional HSDPA or WiBro connectivity.  The N310 boasts up to 5hrs runtime from the standard battery, or up to 11hrs from the extended pack. Lluon Mobbit WiBro MID gets inflated pre-order price

We described the Lluon Mobbit MID, back in December, as a bargain: a roughly $400 price-tag for a 4.8-inch touchscreen, 1.3GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM, a choice of 30GB HDD or 16GB SSD and WiFi, Bluetooth and WiBro.  Something seems to have gone wrong in the weeks since then, however; TG Sambo have finally announced pre-order pricing in Korea, and for the basic model (which lacks WiBro) they're now asking 799,000 won ($575). UMID have been showing off their new MID (Mobile Internet Device) at the Global Mobile Vision expo, a compact clamshell with a 4.8-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard.  Expected to launch in Korea in 2009, the MID is packed to the rafters with wireless connectivity options: WiBro, WiMAX, HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth.  Grunt is courtesy of an Intel Atom 1.1GHz or 1.3GHz processor paired up with 512MB or 1GB of RAM. Toshiba Libretto U100 with Wibro special edition

Here's a blast from the past: Toshiba has dusted off the Libretto name and slapped it onto a 7.2-inch netbook.  This Libretto U100 is a limited edition intended to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Toshiba notebook sales, and carries through much of the original Libretto range's blocky styling.  However they've also given the U100 Wibro, to bring it right up to date.
