WeTab goes on sale, gets video unboxing

Looks like the first WeTab tablets are out in the wild, with the Atom-based MeeGo slate now up for sale at Amazon Germany (€449 for the 16GB model; €669 for the 32GB model with GPS and 3G/UMTS) and NewGadgets having time to shoot the customary unboxing video.  It's still too early for any real feedback - though we already know it won't have any sort of app store access, at least for the first few months - but you can at least see what you get in the box.

MeeGo WeTab will launch with no app store

Neofonie's WeTab MeeGo slate may be expected to launch this week, but it seems the overall user experience may not quite live up to what iPad and Android tablet owners have become accustomed to.  CarryPad's Steve Paine bumped into one of the 4tiitoo team partially responsible for the WeTab (back when it was the WePad) and he confirmed that when the 10-inch tablet arrives it won't have any sort of application download store.

WePad hands-on demos: it’s real, it works

The WePad's track record for public demonstrations isn't great: the first time around, the iPad alternative was found to be playing a video demo rather than actually responding to direct control, prompting Neofonie to wheel out a prototype just to prove that it actually works.  Happily third time is the charm, with a new press event giving NetbookNews the chance to grab some hands-on time with a working WePad slate.

WePad tablet gets second (working) video demo

WePad tablet gets second (working) video demo

After the first - surprisingly promising - hands-on report about the WePad, there's now a second video of the 11.6-inch tablet in action.  Just as the last video had a little oddness to it (in that the WePad looked to be occasionally doing things of its own accord, because it was actually running a UI demo video rather than being locally controlled), this time around the tablet's touchscreen isn't working and so navigation is via a plugged-in USB mouse.

WePad Gets Hands-On Treatment

WePad Gets Hands-On Treatment

There's a lot of hands-on going on today, isn't there? While Microsoft got their own keynote, looks like the Android-powered WePad wants to have its time in the limelight, too. Can't say that we don't blame it, or those who created it, considering all the talk this tablet is getting. We heard earlier about its official pricing, and now we've got it on video, doing stuff. And, that's always better than rendered pictures, right?
