Alpha Dog robot is just as creepy as Big Dog robot

Alpha Dog robot is just as creepy as Big Dog robot

One of the things that places a limit on how far a military patrol can roam is the amount of gear like food, water, and ammo they can carry with them. The military is working on getting some devices like robots into the field that will be able to carry packs and supplies for soldiers over any terrain. A company called Boston Dynamics has previously unveiled the Big Dog four-legged robot that was sufficiently creepy.

DIY toilet paper printer, tweets for your butt

DIY toilet paper printer, tweets for your butt

The 90's ruined me, I find it hard to think about TP today without thinking about The Great Cornholio. I bet had our pal Beavis not been a raving idiot, he would have used this TP printer that writes tweets or content from a RSS feed directly onto your favorite paper. Apparently this printer contraption was invented by a German dude named Mario Lukas to enter some sort of tech competition.

ITV documentary uses video game footage, claims its real IRA film

When you watch a documentary on a war that took place decades ago on a network like ITV, you might expect that all the footage used and claimed to be actual footage from the fighting would be real. You would be assuming too much though. Apparently, an ITV documentary that was looking into the support Gaddhafi gave to the IRA used some footage said to be the IRA's own video.

Sound Tank lays down the boom

Sound Tank lays down the boom

In my neck of the woods, there are plenty of cars and trucks that have more watts in stereo gear than the drivers have in brain cells. You know the sort that has more money tied up in wheels and stereo gear than the car is worth even though the paint is falling off the car. An artist named Nik Nowak has taken mobile stereo gear to the next level. Notice I didn’t say automotive stereo gear, Nik didn’t use a car or truck for his stereo.

Scientists reconstruct YouTube videos from brain activity

Scientists reconstruct YouTube videos from brain activity

This is pretty awesome. Researchers at UC Berkeley have been able to recreate what people are seeing as they watch YouTube videos using brain activity. The quality of the videos they recreate isn't good at all. In fact, in the video on the ABC News story the clip of the jet seems to be missing the jet. The participants in the project were members of the research team headed by Jack Gallant, a professor of psychology.

Chinese man builds full size AR.Drone to fly around

Chinese man builds full size AR.Drone to fly around

This has to be the bravest dude on the planet, or perhaps the dumbest I can’t really decide. A Chinese farmer named Shu Mansheng has designed his own flying contraption that has no wings and used eight motorcycle engines fitted with propellers inside a big metal circle that holds a basket. The design of the craft reminds me more than a little of the AR.Drone.

I know how you early morning types like your weird, so here it is. I know that eels and leeches are different, but the last time I was this grossed out at the thought of a slimy thing getting on private parts was in that Stand by Me scene where he finds the leech in a place guys don't even want to think about. Prepare to squirm guys, you have been warned. Apparently, in China a treatment to make your skin look better is to bathe with some sort of slimy eels.

Joerg Sprave unveils compact bullpup crossbow slingshot

That master of slingshot disaster Joerg Sprave has posted a new video to his YouTube account showing off his latest creation. This time around, he is shooting normal ball bearings out of what he calls the compact bullpup crossbow slingshot rather than exotic ammo like saw blades or iPhones. I will admit up front I had to watch the video twice because the cute ninja zombie killing cats in the background distracting me. That one cat was all "what was that!" when Sprave finally fired the slingshot.

I always think of the old west when I hear the term ghost town. We are all familiar with the phrase meaning a town where the buildings are still there, but no one is around. A technology company from Washington D.C. has an interesting idea for testing all sorts of new technology in a realistic setting. The company is called Pegasus Global Holdings and the project will cost $200 million to complete. The town will be constructed with old and new buildings in New Mexico.

I bet there are a bunch of geeky gals out there that read SlashGear; this one is just for you. Objet Ltd is showing off a new item that it has made using 3D printing for rapid prototyping. The new product is high-heeled shoe that is made with interchangeable parts that can be replaced when needed. The shoe is very square and seems ugly to me. I don’t see my wife wearing these.
