Webcam Created by MIT Grad Student Can Tell if Your Heart is Healthy

Finding out if your healthy or not usually entails a doctor's visit, or two, but thanks to a grad student at MIT, the process could get a lot easier. Ming-Zher Poh, the grad student, has made it possible for an every-day webcam, with some slight modifications, to tell how healthy you, and your heart are, just by looking at you. There's no need to hook yourself up to any machine, or test your blood. Just look at the webcam, and you'll have your result displayed to you. Read The Full Story

Cisco home telepresence tipped for Comcast/Verizon reveal next week

Cisco is tipped to be readying a telepresence device for home use, with partnerships with Verizon and Comcast suggested, according to sources talking to BoomTown. The exact nature of the device is unclear, but it's believed to cost as low as $200 when "heavily subsidized" or $500 with fewer commitments. Most importantly, Cisco is expected to be pushing their higher quality video than that of arch rival Skype. Read The Full Story

Alessi's Android-based alessiTab is finally approaching availability, with the L-shaped 10.1-inch capacitive slate set to hit Italian shelves in November. designboom scored an invite to the launch event - held at designer Stefana Giovannoni's own home - to get a demo of the tablet, which packs 1GB of storage, a DVB-T digital TV tuner, WiFi b/g and an HDMI output. The company has unveiled its latest webcam called the LifeCam Studio that offers up to 1080p resolution and lots more. Hot on the heels of Logitech's Alert CCTV system yesterday comes news of a rival platform by lesser-known camera company Y-Cam. The Y-Cam Bullet is a weatherproof, network-connected camera that works over either WiFi b/g or wired ethernet; it streams 640 x 480 30fps video with sound, as well as recording it to a local microSD card, and like Logitech the company offers iPhone and Android remote monitoring apps. Logitech Alert 750i & 750e network video security systems revealed [Video]

Logitech has been pushing their webcams' potential for home security for a while now, and with the new Logitech Alert cameras they've now got security-specific models to choose from. The new Logitech Alert 750i and 750e Master Systems both record and stream 960 x 720 video, and can be motion-triggered as well as monitored via a web interface, smartphone app (for iPhone, BlackBerry or Android) and eventually via Google TV. Air Hogs Hawk Eye R/C chopper takes your webcam airborne

We've been looking to the Parrot AR.Drone to sate our desires for airborne webcam goodness, but Air Hogs might be able to do that for a whole lot less money. The new Air Hogs Hawk Eye remote-control helicopter lacks the AR.Drone's iPhone/iPod touch integration and fancy quad-rotor hovering abilities, but at around $65 when it arrives later this month it's certainly cheaper.
