Walmart announces 100th solar installation in California

You only have to set foot in most Walmart stores to know that the company wants to be green. For instance, in my local store, there are hordes of skylights all around the building in the ceiling and lights in the store turn off and on depending on how much light is coming through those skylights from the outside. That means you to be walking around and suddenly some of the lights turn off making the interior darker. I assume most Walmart locations use similar systems.

Select Walmart stores are offering a major discount on the iPhone 4S, perhaps just in time for a nice Mother's Day present. Earlier this morning, Cult of Mac reported that a Walmart location in Edmond, Oklahoma had listed the 16GB iPhone 4S for only $114. The Verge then found that another Walmart location in Austin, Texas was also offering the same deal.

Walmart intros “Pay with Cash” for online shoppers

Walmart is launching a new scheme for those unable or unwilling to pay for items using a credit or debit card over the internet. The scheme is called “Pay with Cash”, and would let customers order items on Walmart’s website, then pay for the item at a local store in cash. Joel Anderson, CEO of Walmart, says that only 15% of Walmart transactions are carried out using credit cards, and there’s a large portion of customers dependant on cash.

Walmart has announced that it will start selling the new iPad earlier than even Apple's own retail stores. The big-box retailer says that its 24-hour locations will begin selling the new iPad at 12:01am midnight tonight or technically tomorrow morning, eight hours ahead of Apple Stores, which are scheduled to open at 8am on March 16.

This morning it's been announced that Apple will not only be selling the new iPad from their own retail locations, they'll be working with a series of 3rd party stores as well - this likely spreading the stock thin for everyone involved. This iPad release will have Apple joined by Best Buy, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Target, and Walmart, not to mention the two big mobile carriers giving this iPad its first dose of 4G LTE: AT&T and Verizon. Like last year's release of the iPad 2, customers should expect lines to be long and stock to be short - people are already lined up waiting for the Friday 8AM release, believe it or not!

Walmart DVDs, Blu-rays can be turned into digital copies

When you buy a movie from everyone's favorite mega jumbo giant retailer, you'll now be given the option of purchasing a digital copy of the film as well. The idea is that customers should think of digital copies as add-ons to their physical disc purchase. The additional fees will be $2 for standard-definition movies and $5 for HD. Either option is available regardless of which format you buy the movie on.

UltraViolet cloud conversion to cost $2-$4 per DVD

We have been talking about UltraViolet for a while now, but the official announcement of the service will come today at 1 PM ET. Ultraviolet is the DVD movie conversion service that Walmart will operate along with partners Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, and Fox. The idea is that consumers can bring in their DVDs and get them converted to digital for a fee.
