Rumors of Apple’s smartphone hitting Walmart at a discount price have been circulating for some time.  Now, The BGR is reporting that Walmart are preparing to sell an entry-level iPhone 3G with 4GB of storage for just $99.  The price would be the lowest ever for the best-selling handset.

We’ve been talking a lot about Black Friday here on SlashGear because saving cash during the holiday season is always a nice way kick off the festivities. Plus, during this recession, it’s nice for people to get nice gifts for their family without breaking the bank. But if this is what a huge sale does to people, I’m done.

If the $299.99 sticker price on the new AT&T BlackBerry Bold is too rich for you right now, Walmart might have the answer.  They’re currently offering the new smartphone – which we glowingly reviewed here - free, after a mail-in rebate.  Of course, there’s always a catch to these deals, and unsurprisingly they collar you with the monthly fees.

175 90 walmartWhile I love Blu-ray, I’ve been a bit apprehensive about switching out my library to the newer format. After all, all of those estimates says Blu-ray will be history in a few years, anyway. But Wal-Mart is trying to help out the HD disc cause.

In fact, the super store is going to be devoting more shelf space to Blu-ray movie titles. But in order to do this, they will be getting rid of some of the space devoted to CDs. This is due to the fact that CD sales have dropped about 23% since more and more people download music these days.

walmart logoWalmart has backtracked on its decision to shut down the DRM servers authenticating music tracks purchased from its MP3 Downloads store.  In a message sent to service users, Walmart cites “feedback from our customers” as the motivation for the turnaround, having announced last month that it would take the systems offline as it transitioned to DRM-free MP3s.
