Intel's developer conference kicked off in Beijing this week, and among the announcements there's talk of their MeeGo collaborative platform with Nokia.  That includes some UI examples - for both netbooks, as seen here, and mobile devices, which you can see after the cut - together with feature lists and roadmaps.  Nothing specific in terms of actual device releases, of course, but Intel have confirmed that MeeGo v1.1 should land in late October 2010. Sprint Airave v2 with VoIP & EVDO clears FCC

Sprint's femtocell plans have been tipped by the FCC, with the company's latest model sneaking through ahead of its official debut.  The new Sprint Airave differs from its predecessor by adding in EVDO support for higher speed data connectivity, together with throwing in a VoIP phone port, based on a femtocell design by Airvana. Skype for Symbian S60 slides into Nokia’s Ovi Store

The latest version of Skype's mobile VoIP app for Symbian S60 devices (aka Symbian^1) has been added to the Nokia Ovi Store, making free calls over WiFi or 3G a slightly easier possibility for the millions of handset owners out there.  In fact, there are over 200 million Nokia phones worldwide, and with the Skype app they'll be able to send SMS messages, share images and other files, use IM and of course make free or low-cost Skype calls. Skype pull Windows Mobile VoIP app

Skype have pulled support for Windows Mobile, leaving only iPhone and Symbian versions of their mobile VoIP app.  According to Skype's FAQ on the subject, the company "felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows Mobile were not offering the best possible Skype experience"; there are also hints that Skype may be planning a new version to replace it, however. MagicJack lose defamation case, charged $50,000

One of the more controversial products we've written about - certainly one which provokes the most argument among commenters - is the MagicJack VoIP adapter.  Thanks to regular cable TV adverts, a "too good to be true" confusion about the service and an outspoken CEO, the company regularly find themselves the subject of debate.  That debate flipped over into a legal battle, however, when Boing Boing critiqued the MagicJack EULA; the VoIP firm decided they didn't like the accusations that they would use call information to target customers with adverts, took Boing Boing to court, and ended up having to pay $50,000 in damages. iCall VoIP now available over 3G on iPhone/iPod Touch, possibly on iPad?

An update to the iPhone developer SDK now enables Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users to make VoIP calls over cellular networks.  The application, dubbed iCall, is the only one in the Apple App Store at this current moment that can allow for VoIP over 3G connections. Read The Full Story
