CES 2009: iRiver WAVE HOME multimedia device hands-on

iRiver can always be relied on to bring something interesting to CES, and this year is no exception.  The WAVE HOME is this year’s multimedia maven, combining local video and music playback, internet access and VoIP voice and messaging into a compact, minimalist desktop unit.  SlashGear stopped by the iRiver booth to spend some hands-on time with the WAVE, and while it might do its darnedest to defy categorisation, that didn’t stop us wanting to bring it home.

Skype have begun selling ASUS' standalone webcam-equipped VoIP phone, the AiGuru SV1.  Intended for those who don't want to deal with a full laptop for their video conferencing, the SV1 has an integrated 800 x 480 7-inch display, microphone, webcam and speakerphone; it uses either WiFi or a wired ethernet connection, and has a rechargeable battery. iRiver Wave WiFi phone on sale in Korea

iRiver's parent company Reigncom and Korean cellular carrier KT have announced the release of the iRiver Wave, seemingly jumping the previously publicized March 9th 2009 launch.   The handset - which includes WiFi for media streaming, internet access and VoIP - will initially be available at ten "iRiver Zones" in Korea, before more mainstream availability. Nintendo Wii Speak Channel & Animal Crossing game launch Dec 5th in Europe

Nintendo UK have officially announced the Wii Speak Channel, and confirmed that the online chat service won't launch in Europe until December 5th.  Using the Wii Speak microphone, which plugs into the Wii and will be released at the same time as the Channel, up to four separate users from anywhere in the world will be able to talk.  Voice functionality will also be built into future Wii games, the first being Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City.
