Vizio XVT CinemaWide smart TVs mimic 21:9 theater experience

Vizio has unveiled its XVT Series CinemaWide HDTV line-up, a three-strong range of new LED LCD televisions that offer movie theater-style 21:9 aspect displays. Headlining the company's 2012 TV push, the XVT Series consists of the 50-inch XVT3D500CM, 58-inch XVT3D580CM and finally the 71-inch XVT3D710CM. All support smart TV functionality and 3D, using inexpensive passive 3D glasses.

Vizio R-Series 3D Google TV HDTVs revealed

Vizio has revealed its new Google TV range of HDTVs for 2012, the R-Series, with the company's Vizio Internet Apps Plus reskin of the Google platform delivering apps, search and streaming media in your living room. Consisting of the 42-inch R3D420VS, 47-inch R3D470VS, 55-inch R3D550VS and 65-inch R3D650VS, the R-Series line-up includes a dual-sided Bluetooth remote with a QWERTY keyboard on one side and a touchpad on the other, for easier navigation.

Samsung, Sony and Vizio bringing Google TVs to CES

Samsung, Sony and Vizio will have new Google TV hardware at CES next week, while the platform will make its long-awaited international debut in 2012, with Google confirming its key partners alongside LG's new smart TV kit. Meanwhile, Marvell's ARMADA 1500 chipset - integral to Google TV now that the search giant has jumped from x86 to ARM - will share the stage with chip company MediaTek, which will also be supplying SoCs to power Google TV set-top boxes.

Panasonic Toughpad A1 and Toughpad B1 Android tablets revealed

This week the folks at Panasonic have revealed one tablet and named a second, the first being the Toughpad A1, a 10.1-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet with a processor from no less than Marvell, the most elusive chipmaker of all. Of course Marvell has appeared in mobile devices before, but the last time we spoke about them in regards to a mobile device was in the Vizio Tablet, then before that was a Chinese smartphone and on the Chumby 8. Here we see Marvell sitting inside the tablet with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, this aside 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB more.

The Vizio Tablet has gotten a software update that promises to enhance overall performance. A somewhat laggy interface was a major issue that plagued the otherwise favorable budget-friendly tablet. The update brings the Vizio Internet Apps Plus (VIA Plus) custom interface up to version 1.2, while it continues to run on top of Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread.

We have talked more than once about the cheap and cool Vizio 8-inch Android tablet. The tablet is now at retailers around the country for $299 making it a cheap tablet option. Vizio has announced that the tablet will now support Hulu Plus. I think we all knew this support was coming to the tablet since Hulu plus and Netflix are two of the most popular video streaming services out there.
