VIZIO acquired by LeEco for $2 billion

VIZIO is being acquired by LeEco, the companies have announced, a deal that costs $2 billion and will involve VIZIO, for the most part, operating as a LeEco subsidiary. Both VIZIO's hardware and software businesses are being acquired; while they’ll operate as a subsidiary, the company’s data business will be spun out into a separate private company, says LeEco. Both companies are benefiting from the acquisition, with VIZIO giving LeEco its massive user base in North America and LeEco, for its part, being poised to expand VIZIO across the globe.

Google, Vizio to give non-smart TVs Chromecast powers

Google, Vizio to give non-smart TVs Chromecast powers

Despite the growing number of app-empowered smart TVs in the latest generation of living room entertainment electronics, not everyone might be keen on giving their TV that much brain power. There are, of course, ways to bridge the gap between the plain and the smart but those, including the wallet-friendly Chromecast, require additional purchases. It seems that Google wants to change the living room arrangement again and this time it's working with TV maker Vizio to produce regular, but perhaps 4K, TVs that only have one difference: they practically have Chromecast built in.

Vizio Smart TVs may be watching you while you watch it

Vizio Smart TVs may be watching you while you watch it

Earlier this year, Samsung was accused of eavesdropping on owners of its Smart TVs, or at the very least transmitting data to hits servers in an unsafe manner. Although the issue has since then died down, we might actually have something far worse but thankfully probably less widespread. Vizio, a brand associated most with digital displays, has recently launched its new line of smart TVs. And with those come a smart feature that gathers data about your viewing habits, which Vizio can then sell to the highest bidder.

Vizio takes 4K TV down to $600, aiming for middle-class USA

The last time we spoke about "affordable" 4K TVs, Vizio was the brand we were speaking about. That was back in September of 2014, and the word "affordable" was tossed around rather willy-nilly. At $999, a television isn't exactly the sort of equipment the average middle-class citizen is going to be picking up more than once every few years. Fast forward to April 2015 and Vizio's newest stab at the market is a 4K TV with a price just 60% of that which they presented a half a year ago.

Vizio’s new E-Series LED TVs launch with 70-inch model

Vizio has launched its latest E-Series budget-centric televisions, and included among them is a giant 70-inch model, bringing consumers a large option for a (relatively speaking) small price tag. There are a total of 11 new televisions, all of them being LED varieties that will soon be available through the most common retailers, as well as Vizio's own website. As you'd expect from the entry-level E-Series, the starting price of the new models is low -- $179 USD -- though the maker promises the models don't compromise on quality.

Vizio takes jab at curved TVs with spoof ad

Vizio takes jab at curved TVs with spoof ad

Curved televisions and monitors are the latest trend, but Vizio, at least, isn't happy with them. Simultaneously bashing the technology and dashing any hopes that it would be rolling out its own version, the company has created a cheesy spoof advertisement hawking a pair of "anti-curve" glasses, which look like a VR headset and include a bonus drink holder for those especially lazy days. Of course, the glasses aren't real, but to make up for the time you spent watching, Vizio has nestled a real perk amidst the humor.

Vizio P-Series 4K TVs to get three new content apps

Vizio showed off its budget-friendly P-Series 4K Ultra HD televisions at the beginning of the year, and this past September it rolled out pricing and availability for the sets. The P-Series brought with it some smart features that could utilize its ultra high resolution, and now in time for the holiday season the maker has announced an inbound update that will bring more content apps -- with support for UHD -- to the models, including access to Amazon Instant Video and more.
