ViewSonic ViewPad 7 launch [Video]

, Oct 28th 2010 Discuss [4]

ViewSonic announced official pricing and availability for their ViewPad 7 Android slate this morning, and we grabbed some hands-on time with the one production model running final software the company had on hand.  It’s thankfully a slicker, more stable experience than the prototype we saw at IFA 2010, with Android 2.2 Froyo moving quickly on the ViewPad 7′s 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.  More details, together with benchmarks and pricing, after the cut.

Viewsonic Viewpad 7 pre-orders open for Nov 15 UK debut

, Oct 26th 2010 Discuss [1]

If the fast-approaching Galaxy Tab is too rich for your blood, how about a 7-inch Android slate for a couple hundred less; Viewsonic's Viewpad 7 is roughly the same size as the Samsung, but has gone up for pre-order in the UK at £399.99 ($634) versus the Galaxy Tab's £529.99.  Your money gets you a lower resolution display (800 x 480 versus 1024 x 600) and a slower processor, but for many the cost saving - itself likely to increase as more vendors start offering the Viewpad 7 - might push the slate into impulse-buy territory. ViewSonic G Tablet Features Android 2.2 & NVIDIA Tegra 2

, Sep 16th 2010 Discuss [2]

ViewSonic is on a roll with their tablet creations. Having just seen the ViewSonic ViewPad at this year's IFA, and noticing that it dual-boots Windows and Android, we're shocked to see that this other 10-inch display tablet isn't that. In fact, it doesn't even dual-boot Operating Systems. Instead, it angles for a more pristine Android 2.2 approach, all of which you'll enjoy on a ten-inch display. Read The Full Story

ViewSonic MB-P702 PMP/ereader surprises by not being a tablet

We'll admit, we were so intrigued by ViewSonic's ViewPad 7 and ViewPad 100 last week, we didn't spot their MB-P702 PMP/ereader at the booth.  According to imp3, the 7-inch slate may look like yet another tablet, but actually it's a whole lot more focussed than the similarly-sized ViewPad 7.  No Android, no web browsing or Google Maps; just 1080p HD video playback with an HDMI output. ViewSonic ViewPad 100 dual-boot Android/Win7 slate hands-on

ViewSonic's second tablet is more of a work-in-progress than the ViewPad 7, with the ViewPad 100 being a 10-inch dual-booting Android/Windows 7 tablet that's still undergoing plenty of finessing. With a 1024 x 600 two-point multitouch capacitive touchscreen, Atom N455 processor and 1GB of DDR3 memory, it makes for a reasonable netbook replacement (as long as you don't mind losing the hardware keyboard) but, thanks to the presence of Android, also doubles as a quick-loading multimedia player and general entertainment slate. ViewSonic ViewPad 7 hands-on [Video]

With a sub-£350 price tag for a 7-inch Android 2.2 Froyo tablet, with 3G voice and data, a capacitive touchscreen and digital camera, we were wondering where the catch was with the ViewSonic ViewPad 7. Having used the compact slate at IFA 2010 this morning, we’re still left searching for the compromise: on the face of it, you’re getting much of what Samsung is delivering with the Galaxy Tab, only at (perhaps) half the price.

ViewSonic Viewpad 7 gets official: sub-£350 Android 2.2 tablet

, Aug 31st 2010 Discuss [0]

ViewSonic has come clean on its first Android tablet, the 7-inch ViewSonic Viewpad 7.  Running Android 2.2 on a capacitive touchscreen, the Viewpad 7 has an integrated GSM/3G modem for phone and data connectivity, a front-facing VGA webcam and a 3-megapixel rear camera.  It can be used as a regular Android phone - albeit a big one - but of course it's really intended to replace your iPad. Viewsonic Android ViewPad tablet gets pictured

, Aug 27th 2010 Discuss [1]

Viewsonic's announcement that they were bringing an Android tablet to IFA 2010 next week basically added their name to a long list of manufacturers planning the same, but the accompanying image left plenty to be desired.  Happily Pocket-lint has managed to source a couple of better pictures of one of the Viewsonic slates, judging by the scale of the side-mounted headphone and USB ports the 7-inch ViewPad model. ViewSonic ViewPad Android tablet & dual-booting Android/Microsoft slate tipped for IFA 2010

, Aug 23rd 2010 Discuss [0]

ViewSonic has tipped its IFA 2010 hand, with the news that the company plans to bring two new tablets along to the show.  The 7-inch ViewSonic ViewPad will run Android and have dual cameras - one for photography, the other for video calls - together with WiFi and 3G, while a 10-inch model (currently unnamed) will dual-boot between Android and an unspecified Microsoft OS.  That could well be Windows Embedded Compact 7. Viewsonic Android 2.2 tablet imminent?

Viewsonic's tablet plans have apparently been scooped by a talkative source, with Stuff.tv claiming that the company - best known for its LCD monitors - is preparing a 7-inch Android 2.2. Froyo slate for imminent release.  The unnamed tablet is expected to include GSM/UMTS connectivity, for voice calls and presumably data access as well, together with a rear-mounted camera (of either 3- or 5-megapixels).
