Google Zeitgeist 2012 wraps the year: Obama, Bieber, iPad & Gangnam Style

Google has rolled up the year in search and released its Zeitgeist 2012 report, a run-down of everything – from Obama through Bieber to the iPad and The Hunger Games –  that topped the search charts. Split down into categories like performing artists, consumer electronics, and events, together with individual countries, according to the wrap-up it’s the iPad 3 and Samsung’s Galaxy S III which took the top search spots in gadgetry, with the iPad mini bringing up third place.

VLC launches Kickstarter campaign for Windows 8 app

VideoLAN, the team behind the popular video player VLC, has launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise money to build a native app for Windows 8 and Windows RT. Jaguar XFR-S revealed: This big cat has 550HP claws

Jaguar has pulled the wraps off of its XFR-S sports sedan, the big cat company's 186mph take on tightening up the luxobarge until your passengers squeak like field-mice. Teased last week as the fastest and most powerful four-door from Jaguar ever, the XFR-S made its debut at the LA Auto Show 2012, using a 5-liter supercharged V8 engine with 550PS good for a 0-60mph dash in 4.4s. However, Jaguar also says the XFR-S shouldn't make too great an impact in your eco-credentials, with the new car putting out the same emissions and fuel consumption figures as its XRF sibling. Vimeo for iPhone updated with easier video creation

Vimeo has released a new app for iPhone, allowing users to film their own videos and upload them while on the move, as well as browse through the video library. The free app, v3.0, introduces a new tab-based UI for easier navigation between the new Feed view, video searches, and the Watch Later queue; it's also possible to shoot videos within the app, and then upload them in the background.
