MSI have announced a new video card range, the R4600 HDMI series, which as the name would suggest all support native HDMI.  The MSI R4600 HDMI cards output full 1080 high-definition together with 7.1 surround sound, as well as supporting Unified Video Decoder 2.0 to offset digital decoding from the main system CPU.

Intel have developed an ultracompact graphics accelerator for ultramobile devices, which could see future MIDs, UMPCs and netbooks render graphics faster and at higher quality.  The system is a new breed of SIMD Accelerator (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) which executes multiple computing instructions simultaneously but is refined for ultramobile use.

VIA have announced a new netbook mainboard reference design, which promises 1080p Full HD playback and 8-channel HD audio.  The VIA Surfboard C855 Reference Design uses a 1.6GHz VIA C7-M ULV processor with an 800MHz FSB, VIA Chrome9 graphics with hardware H.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1 and WMV9 decoding, and support for Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and 3G connectivity.

Disappointing news from MSI, as the company confirms a misprint on the MSI Wind U110 Eco specifications.  Officially announced yesterday, the netbook’s two main draws were its 9hrs battery life and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics card; unfortunately, the graphics are in fact courtesy of Intel’s GMA 500 chipset.

Digital camcorders are slowly moving away from hdd-based storage to SDHC form factor memory card. The increased popularity and demand in HD recording raises a new marketing angle to advertise SDHC cards as HD video cards, instead of the much-traditional category by Class Speed. Evidence seen from the newly announced Transcend 16GB SDHC cards touting HD video transfer speed and capacity.

According to a Digitimes report, NVIDIA have canceled their yearly NVISION conference in an attempt to save money.  While no statement has been made either on NVIDIA’s site or the NVISION blog (which hasn’t been updated since the 2008 event), it’s believed that the current economic situation is dissuading would-be attendees from registering.

intel atom logoIntel have confirmed that the GN40 netbook graphics chipset, while capable of playing some 1080p high-definition content, will not be up to handling Blu-ray HD footage.  In an official statement regarding the chipset’s abilities, Intel differentiated between “internet HD” and Blu-ray, the former being a less spec-intensive proposition.

AMD have announced their latest quad-display video card, the energy-efficient ATI FirePro 2450.  Capable of driving four individual monitors while using on average less than 18W, the FirePro 2450 is a low-profile, half-length card capable of fitting in even compact enterprise desktops.

Apple don’t seem to be able to catch a break with their displays recently, perhaps as a result of being on the cutting edge of NVIDIA’s latest GPU technology.  Latest to cause Cupertino headaches is the 17-inch unibody MacBook Pro, which according to some owners will demonstrate green and purple banding and visual artifacts when using the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M.

We’re already caught sight of it – metaphorically speaking – in Clevo’s D900F 17-inch gaming laptop, but NVIDIA have officially announced the new GeForce GTX 280M, one of four fresh mobile GPUs.  The GTX 280M apparently offers up to 50-percent more performance than its last-gen “enthusiast laptop GPUs”, with support for CUDA and PhysX gaming effects.
