Viacom and DirectTV fein friendship as content war rages on

Today a battle is going on between Viacom and DirecTV in which the latter has threatened to pull 17 channels from their network unless they and Viacom can reach a licensing deal for the near future. As a result of that battle, many things have come to pass in the last 12 hours - with two messages sent via Twitter being the closest the two have come to an agreement thus far, that being an assurance that they're working to make the whole situation end as quickly as possible for their rabid users.

Viacom pulls Nickelodeon and 16 other channels from DirecTV

Viacom and DirecTV have been playing hardball in contract negotiations and that led to Viacom to pull 17 national networks from the DirecTV lineup last night. I'll be the first to admit that the bulk of those channels Viacom pulled are of no consequence to most of us. However, Viacom did pull one massively popular channel that will most certainly affect the majority of parents out there.

Time Warner Cable finally adds Viacom channels to iPad app

Time Warner Cable and Viacom have been embroiled in a lawsuit for a long time now that stemmed from Time Warner wanting to put Viacom channels on its iPad app for streaming. Viacom maintained that Time Warner only had permission to air its channels on cable TV. Viacom fought tooth and nail and is now finally settling the differences with Time Warner.

Viacom, yet again, dismisses Netflix impact on Nickelodeon

During its most recent quarterly earnings call, Viacom was met with the question of how Nickelodeon's ratings have experienced steep and seemingly inexplicable ratings drops. Inexplicable, that is, unless you think about Netflix and the fact that it is ramping up its children programming. Last month, a study revealed that homes with Netflix or other streaming platforms have shown declines in children's TV viewership.

Disney Channel content hits YouTube

YouTube and Disney originally signed a deal back in November that would see the two working together, with Disney creating original short videos for the streaming website. That hasn’t come to pass yet, but part of the agreement looks to have included Disney offering up some of its existing content to watch for free.
