This week it appears that Valve and their wildly successful Steam platform for computer games are taking a giant leap into the realm of education. With their upcoming program Teach With Portals, they'll be bringing a new edition of Portal 2 to the classroom for teachers to utilize its Puzzle Maker engine for teaching physics with computer-based creation tools. Valve talks Steam client for Linux

Valve has been using its Steam client to distribute digital copies of some of its coolest video games for a long time. Valve's Gabe Newell is talking about the rollout of the Steam client and source engine to Linux. Earlier this month a meeting between Apple’s Tim Cook and the gaming company known as Valve was reported by several sources – now it turns out that it never happened. Or so Valve’s co-founder Gabe Newell says. From what Gabe and crew say now, they were as surprised by the news that Cook had visited their facilities as everyone else was, frantically emailing one another trying to find out who, if anyone, had actually seen Cook enter or exit their offices – is he now just being a bit of a fibber to cover up the truth?

Valve head says Apple meeting never took place

We talked a few times now about rumors that pegged Apple CEO Tim Cook at Valve for some sort of meeting. The head of valve, Gabe Newell, has now come out and said that meeting never happened. This weekend we’re hearing basically every single tech, gaming, and Apple-heavy site flip out over the idea that Tim Cook’s visit to Valve means an Apple gaming console is in the mix – I disagree. Several simple factors mean that Apple‘s next-generation television push isn’t going to be a full-fledged television, and several simple factors count Valve out of the physical gaming system game as well. Instead, I contend that Apple will be releasing their next-generation MacBook Pro line with emphasis on graphics and computing power, with Valve’s library of OS X-compatible games there to back up their claims.

The company posted job ads for what appears to be a hardware initiative or at least something that sounds like a complete departure from its long-standing traditional business model. Valve confirms Wearable Computing R&D

Valve has confirmed that it is doing its own research into wearable computing, joining a club that includes Google’s Project Glass and Nokia R&D, though the company has warned not to expect a commercial product any time soon. Managing director Michael Abrash revealed his pet project this week, researching the future of hardware and software for wearable, “Terminator vision” style devices that could possibly be a direction Valve might follow.
