VAIO line adds software upgrades, color options, 15.5-inch model SE

In an announcement that's got some lovely holiday bells attached to it, VAIO today let loose some words on its expanding line of notebook computers. Where earlier this year the VAIO SA 13.3-inch screen size-having member of the VAIO S series, now there's a 15.5-inch model called the VAIO SE. In addition to a larger screen size and a dedicated 10-key, the entire piece of hardware is less than 1-inch thick, the VAIO SE has AMD Radeon Hybrid Graphics (up to 1GB VRAM) as well as a cool sheet battery that'll "double" your battery life. In addition to this, a software update comes to VAIO F and VAIO L desktops.

We got our first official glimpse of the Sony VAIO Z Series back on June 28th, a look that revealed this to be Sony's lightest and most portable effort to date. This 13.1-inch 1600 x 900 notebook runs up to a Core i7-2620M 2.7GHz and weighs just under 1.2kg, all of this available for around $2,286 on pre-order, this magnificent laptop will be hitting doorsteps starting this week! Originally scheduled for release in March of this year, a Sony press release has just confirmed Sony’s new L Series all-in-one touchscreen desktop will be available next month. Also confirmed is the wall-mount option. This desktop doesn’t have to be on the desktop, it can be mounted on the wall (mount sold separately). Sony is marketing this as an entertainment PC that may actually replace the TV.

Sony is talking VAIO notebooks again this morning, and it looks like the company is flexing its obsession with power with an update to the VAIO S-Series. Have a peek at the image below and tell me what you see. Does that look like a Thunderbolt port to you? According to a "trusted source" speaking with Engadget it is. What's important here, perhaps even more important than the idea that this actually is a port that supports Sony's upcoming Thunderbolt interpretation is that this could mean that Sony is indeed sold on the idea of Thunderbolt and instead of going with Apple's Mini DisplayPort implementation, they've chosen a USB port.

Sony VAIO Hybrid with GPU dock and Chrome OS Tegra 2 ultraportable tipped

Sony is believed to be readying two new notebooks, including a VAIO Hybrid PC with an intelligent docking station, and a Chrome OS VAIO based on NVIDIA's Tegra 2. According to Sony Insider's sources, the VAIO Hybrid PC will, on its own, be a relatively thin Core i7 machine complete with Intel WiDi, SSD storage, HDMI and a 1.13kg weight, along with Intel Thunderbolt just like Apple's new MacBook Pro.

Sony's third VAIO launch of the day is the new VAIO L Series, all-in-one touchscreen desktops packing 24-inch Full HD displays and a new "edge access" system of touch-sensitive shortcuts integrated into the bezel. Packing a choice of Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics and a 1920 x 1080 multitouch display, the L Series also hides a Blu-ray drive and both HDMI input and outputs.
