Buffalo DriveStation DDR claims SSD speeds with HDD hardware

Buffalo has revealed its latest external drive, the DriveStation DDR HD-GDU3, slotting more RAM into the USB 3.0-connected enclosure so as to rival SSD speeds, allegedly, with HDD pricing. The new drive, available in 2TB and 3TB capacities, uses traditional spinning-platter disks to keep prices down, but Buffalo claims that thanks to a combination of caching and other tweaking it'll reach write speeds of up to 400 MB/s. ADATA launches the world’s thinnest external hard drive

ADATA has unveiled a new external portable hard drive that it claims to be the world's thinnest. The drive is only 8.9 mm thick and connects to computers using USB 3.0. LaCie has launched a new toughened memory stick, the LaCie RuggedKey, cladding a toughened flash chip in a resilient rubber bumper. The RuggedKey, which will be available in 16GB and 32GB capacities, connects via USB 3.0 and is capable of withstanding 100m drops, extremes of heat and cold, and IP-54 level dust and water. A manufacturer has finally decided to build a mini PC featuring silicon other than Intel’s Atom or AMD’s various APUs. In this case it's Giada, today announcing its new i53 “book sized” mini PC. The company has managed to cram in Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors into a 26mm thick chassis, saying that the whole package only consumes 35W. The other specs aren’t bad either. Read The Full Story

Point Grey unveils world’s smallest 4K USB 3.0 camera

Point Grey, makers of industrial digital cameras, has released a new model in its Flea3 USB 3.0 camera lineup that supports 4K resolution and is being touted as the world's smallest 4K camera. It uses the bandwidth capabilities of USB 3.0 to deliver 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution color images at 21 frames per second. All this is stuffed into a tiny ice-cube sized package.
